You\u2019ve been clear you\u2019ve been against mandates on businesses,\u201d Baier said. \u201cWhat\u2019s your reaction to that, and what you think is going to happen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, first of all, my reaction is President Biden has been doing everything humanly possible to get vaccines and making sure people understand how serious this is,\u201d Manchin responded. \u201cI\u2019ve had all of my vaccine shots and my booster, too. My whole family has. I recommend and basically plead with every West Virginian, every American to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut with that, I\u2019ve said first public dollars. We\u2019re working for your tax dollars,\u201d Manchin continued. \u201cThen the government employees, the military, all the services that we depend on by what we\u2019re supporting through our public dollars, should be that mandate which the president put out as an order. I agree 1,000 percent with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not agree on the private sector of 100-plus members \u2014 employees of a business or more. I thought businesses really should make those decisions. They have done and they want [to do and] keep their employees healthy. They should be able to make the decisions,\u201d Manchin said. \u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be that government has to make every decision in the private arena. That\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Manchin conceded to the decision by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-federal-appeals-court-allows-biden-vaccine-mandate-to-resume-for-large-companies\">Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals<\/a>, which allowed the mandate to proceed, and encouraged Americans to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now, the courts \u2014 the courts have spoken. That is the law. I pray to good Lord that everyone abides by this law, and get vaccinated. Please, get vaccinated,\u201d Manchin said.<\/p>\n<p>Manchin originally came out against the employer mandate in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-democratic-senator-comes-out-against-bidens-vaccine-mandate-supports-legislation-to-overturn\">statement<\/a> on December 2nd, as The Daily Wire previously reported. \u201cIn the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and as the new Omicron variant emerges, I will not vote to shut down the government for purely political reasons,\u201d Manchin said at the time. \u201cThere is too much at stake for the American people. But let me be clear, I do not support any government vaccine mandate on private businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I have cosponsored and will strongly support a bill to overturn the federal government vaccine mandate for private businesses,\u201d Manchin continued. \u201cI have long said we should incentivize, not penalize, private employers whose responsibility it is to protect their employees from COVID-19. I have personally had both vaccine doses and a booster shot and I continue to urge every West Virginian to get vaccinated themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire was one of the first companies to challenge the Biden administration\u2019s vaccine mandate for large businesses.
