Irving has yet to play in a game this season due to local rules that require professional athletes to be vaccinated in order to play indoors.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Nets general manager Sean Marks explained the decision to allow Irving to play in road games, a few months after saying the organization would not \u201cpermit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral months ago, we made a decision that was based around what was best for the team,\u201d Marks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/nba\/news\/nets-gm-sean-marks-on-kyrie-irving-decision-covid-has-done-a-number-on-the-team-and-on-society-in-general\/\">said<\/a> via CBS Sports. \u201cWhat was best for the team at that point was continuity. And I think we all see that continuity right now over the course of the last week and whatever the future looks like may be out of the window for a while, and we\u2019re going to navigate that as best we can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, we\u2019re sitting here faced with a roster that has been decimated over the course of the last several days,\u201d Marks continued. \u201cAnd I\u2019m forced to make decisions, and I don\u2019t make those decisions by myself \u2014 we collaborate, like I mentioned before \u2014 but in essence, this is the best decision for this team at this juncture right now, with what we\u2019re dealing with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Irving was placed in COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, five members of the Cleveland Cavaliers were placed in health and safety protocols, including star center Jarrett Allen. Sunday morning, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wojespn\/status\/1472601411657609225?s=20\">reported<\/a> that the Cavaliers were dealing with a COVID outbreak, and the fear was that they would be unable to have the league minimum eight players available for Sunday\u2019s game against Atlanta.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The NBA has now postponed seven games this season, with two Chicago Bulls games postponed last week&nbsp;due to ten Chicago players being placed in the NBA\u2019s Health and Safety protocols.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Chicago Bulls\u2019 next two games \u2014 Tuesday, Dec. 14 against the Detroit Pistons and Thursday, Dec. 16 against Toronto \u2014 have been postponed,\u201d the NBA <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBAPR\/status\/1470465363598995462?s=20\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cTen Bulls players, along with additional staff members, are currently in the NBA\u2019s Health and Safety protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NBA is not the sole league being impacted by COVID.
