Hochul also warned of the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are underestimating the power of Omicron because they say, \u2018people aren\u2019t getting sick, they aren\u2019t going to hospitals,\u2019 but if you have a million more people infected, that means you will have over-flowing hospitals at this rate,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul\u2019s comments come as Chief Medical Advisor to the President Dr. Anthony Fauci has suggested that redefining \u201cfully-vaccinated\u201d to include a booster is \u201con the table.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that optimum vaccination is with a booster,\u201d Fauci said on CNBC\u2019s \u201cSquawk Box,\u201d via the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/17\/redefining-fully-vaccinated-as-three-shots-is-on-the-table\/\">New York Post<\/a>. \u201cWhether or not the CDC is going to change that, it certainly is on the table and open for discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hochul also addressed recent reports that as many as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gestapo-tactics-at-least-13-counties-tell-hochul-they-wont-enforce-her-mask-mandate\">13 counties would not comply<\/a> with the statewide mask mandate. The Daily Wire reported Thursday:<\/p>\n<p><em>The order from Hochul puts the onus on businesses: either checking customers\u2019 vaccine statuses or enforcing mask-wearing\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to the Post, the pushback from officials \u201caccounts for nearly one-quarter of all the state\u2019s territories, not including the five boroughs of New York City\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Hochul&nbsp;announced&nbsp;the order on December 10, and it went into effect Monday. The order will be \u201creassessed\u201d on January 15.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGovernor Kathy&nbsp;Hochul&nbsp;today announced masks will be required to be worn in all indoor public places unless businesses or venues implement a vaccine requirement,\u201d said a press release.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs Governor, my two top priorities are to protect the health of New Yorkers and to protect the health of our economy,\u201d a statement from Hochul said. \u201cThe temporary measures I am taking today will help accomplish this through the holiday season. We shouldn\u2019t have reached the point where we are confronted with a winter surge, especially with the vaccine at our disposal, and I share many New Yorkers\u2019 frustration that we are not past this pandemic yet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She included blame for the unvaccinated, stating: \u201cI want to thank the more than 80 percent of adult New Yorkers who have done the right thing to get fully vaccinated. If others will follow suit, these measures will no longer be necessary.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI have warned for weeks that additional steps could be necessary, and now we are at that point based upon three metrics: Increasing cases, reduced hospital capacity, and insufficient vaccination rates in certain areas,\u201d the Democrat concluded.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a crisis; this is a healthcare crisis and people are going to die,\u201d Hochul stated, adding that if New Yorkers had gotten vaccinated earlier in the pandemic, she would not have needed to issue the mask mandate.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire is fighting Joe Biden\u2019s vaccine mandate in federal court.
