Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who also serves that district, told the Post that \u201cNorth Country elected Democrats have a cocaine and crime problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tony Arquiett, a legislator in St. Lawrence County, is refusing to resign even though he was arrested on December 5 for drunk driving and cocaine possession charges after a car crash. His attorney, Ed Narrow, told the Post that Arquiett will plead not guilty and won\u2019t resign.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Stefanik called his refusal to resign \u201ca disgrace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tim Currier, the former mayor of Massena, New York, was arrested on December 1, 2020, \u201cafter allegedly leading local lawmen on a car chase through the village,\u201d the Post reported. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff\u2019s office also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StlawcoSheriff\/status\/1333978427628658688\">said<\/a> Currier was seen \u201cthrowing approximately one gram of crack cocaine out his passenger window.\u201d Video of the arrest shows Currier was arrested at gunpoint. Currier was charged with drug possession, tampering with evidence and failure to comply with a police officer.<\/p>\n<p>Currier resigned a month after the arrest, saying, \u201cI made some poor decisions \u2026 I cannot express how embarrassed and disappointed [I am] in myself and for my family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currier pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of failing to obey a police officer, the Post reported. He was ordered to pay a $150 fine and $93 in court costs.<\/p>\n<p>The third lawmaker, Clinton County legislator Simon Conroy, was arrested in September 2019 for cocaine possession, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, the Press Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressrepublican.com\/news\/local_news\/conroy-faces-more-charges\/article_8dbdfb4b-0e87-55b5-9c39-4928a0191073.html\">reported<\/a>. More from the Post:<\/p>\n<p><em>Conroy, 47, who also has a stalking charge on his rap sheet for allegedly harassing a female friend, was found with the drugs in an incident near Plattsburgh City Hall, according to reports. Local police would not divulge details of the matter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI believe the charge was fraudulent and due to a particularly corrupt law enforcement officer,\u201d he defiantly told his colleagues,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wamc.org\/north-country-news\/2019-09-27\/clinton-county-legislator-returns-to-meetings-following-arrest\">WAMC reported<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/htv-prod-media.s3.amazonaws.com\/files\/resignation-letter-september-16-2021-1632239396.pdf\">He resigned<\/a>&nbsp;weeks after his arrest and in May pleaded guilty to misdemeanor speeding and criminal mischief.
