She thanked activists for \u201cdeep canvassing\u201d her district \u2014 a process in which they \u201cengaged voters across the district in longer, one-on-one conversations about student debt cancellation, discussed how canceling student debt would impact their lives, and introduced new perspectives by sharing stories &amp; lived experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pressley offered three such interactions, concluding: \u201cAnd so many others whose lived experiences continue to affirm what we know to be true: That the student debt crisis is multiracial &amp; multigenerational. Every time,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScottAdamsSays\/status\/1471946417388228609&#039;\">said<\/a> cartoonist Scott Adams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbusing terms like \u2018violence\u2019 doesn\u2019t persuade people,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/saletan\/status\/1472061496423235586\">acknowledged<\/a> Will Saletan, a correspondent with progressive outlet Slate. \u201cIt just makes them discount the rest of your message.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbortion is violence,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomFitton\/status\/1472006526160228364\">countered<\/a> Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton.<\/p>\n<p>Pressley\u2019s remarks follow other Democratic lawmakers\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pay-your-own-darn-bills-aoc-who-makes-174000-per-year-blasted-for-complaining-about-17k-in-student-loans\">complaints<\/a> about their own outstanding student loan balances.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech on the House floor, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called it \u201cridiculous\u201d that she needs to pay $17,000 in student loans \u2014 although her annual salary as a member of Congress is $174,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m 32 years old now,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez said. \u201cI have over $17,000 in student loan debt, and I didn\u2019t go to graduate school because I knew that getting another degree would drown me in debt that I would never be able to surpass. This is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said on the House floor that she is likewise struggling to repay her obligations: \u201cI worked full time, Monday through Friday, and took weekend classes to get my law degree. And still, close to $200,000 in debt.
