Republicans bought $100 million worth of stocks this year, versus $75 million for Democrats, according to the average of ranges that lawmakers provide in filings.<\/p>\n<p>Politicians from the two major parties displayed distinct portfolio preferences:<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are really into tech stocks, which accounted for some $35 million, or nearly half of all purchases by the group (versus only 14 percent for Republicans). Microsoft was the most popular big-ticket buy: The husband of Representative Suzan DelBene of Washington is a former Microsoft executive who sold between $5 million and $25 million in the company\u2019s stock in October, which she reported past the 45-day deadline, prompting criticism. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s husband is a real estate and venture capital investor who is active on the stock market, making a pair of million-dollar purchases of Microsoft stock during the year, among other trades.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are more about energy, buying $32 million worth of stock in companies in the sector during the year, about a third of all purchases (versus a mere 1 percent for Democrats). Representative Mark Green of Tennessee was associated with many of the biggest energy trades, spreading six-figure purchases across a range of firms.<\/p>\n<p>According to The New York Times, members of Congress also traded $26 million in stock options and $300,000 in cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>The report comes days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pelosi-on-why-congress-should-be-allowed-to-trade-stock-after-dozens-broke-law-we-should-be-able-to\">disregarded<\/a> questions on Wednesday as to why lawmakers should be allowed to trade individual stocks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMadam Speaker, Insider just completed a five\u2011month investigation finding that 49 Members of Congress and 182 senior Congressional staffers have violated the STOCK Act, the insider trading law,\u201d noted a reporter on Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m wondering if you have any reaction to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd secondly, should Members of Congress and their spouses be banned from trading individual stocks while serving in Congress?\u201d the reporter asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I don\u2019t \u2014 no, to the second one.
