Sean Partick Maloney (D-NY).<\/p>\n<p>Vulnerable Democrat members frustrated over potentially losing in the midterms recount their frustration with the DCCC \u2014 the sole job of which is to reelect incumbents and&nbsp;help elect members to vacant seats \u2014 and Chairman Maloney \u2014&nbsp;the top Democrat tasked with keeping their House majority. This happened as the committee reportedly \u201casked vulnerable Democrats to send [Politico] Playbook positive statements about Maloney.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>In an attempt to&nbsp;summarize all the problems between vulnerable members and the committee,&nbsp;one of the Democrats&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/playbook\/2021\/12\/17\/this-is-a-real-f-ing-problem-495509\">told<\/a> Playbook&nbsp;anonymously,&nbsp;\u201cThis is a real fucking problem.\u201d The same member added, \u201cThe Democratic organization whose purpose is to help the party keep the House next year is instead hurting their chances of reelection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the member argued that the messaging from the committee is terrible, referring to Maloney and the committee targeting former President Donald Trump and blasting Republicans, instead of addressing \u201cpocketbook issues,\u201d&nbsp;which is what happened in Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>When Terry McAuliffe lost last month to Republican&nbsp;Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin, McAuliffe&nbsp;focused a lot on Trump and trying to tie the two together, which&nbsp;ultimately failed. \u201cThis is crazy to me that the DCCC is rolling out a playbook that they know doesn\u2019t work and that they encouraged people in 2018 not to use,\u201d the member said,&nbsp;arguing that in 2018, when the Democrats flipped 40 seats, the committee told members to focus on the opposite.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, some vulnerable Democrats claimed that the DCCC\u2019s&nbsp;messaging problem goes further than Trump and attacks on Republicans. Another&nbsp;vulnerable Democrat argued that the committee should stay away from abortion rights as a campaign issue, noting abortion is \u201ca lightning rod\u201d in that member\u2019s district. Meanwhile, the DCCC has previously&nbsp;sent countless&nbsp;press releases attacking Republicans on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Democrats supporting abortion rights said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p>We should leave it up to Planned Parenthood and all the reproductive organizations to get in there and support candidates that are pro-choice and leave it at that. \u2026 I\u2019m not going to go out there and start bashing people for being pro-life. It would be a big mistake in my district.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Vulnerable members also blame&nbsp;Maloney for causing problems within the party, such as going after members. A lawmaker said:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>What\u2019s problematic is not only is he pushing the wrong strategy. \u2026 The biggest problem is that he\u2019s attacking front-line members for taking a different perspective. If you want to win purple and red seats, you have to distance yourself from other Democrats. He is a part of this \u2018party purity\u2019 march that is just going to ensure that we are<i> DEEP<\/i> in the minority.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Previous heads of the DCCC have gone against their party\u2019s leadership to help&nbsp;protect vulnerable members, such as former DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos (D-IL), who is retiring from Congress at the end of her current term. Playbook mentioned that during her time as chair, she \u201cwas known for pushing back on leadership in private in order to protect vulnerable members from tough votes.\u201d But, as chair, Maloney has done the opposite, going after members.<\/p>\n<p>Maloney went after Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/10\/02\/democrat-gottheimer-livid-over-pelosi-postponing-bipartisan-infrastructure-bill-vote\/\">released<\/a> a statement fuming over&nbsp;House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) breaking a promise to vote on the so-called \u201cbipartisan\u201d infrastructure law,&nbsp;in the time the two agreed on, \u201cbreach[ing] her firm, public commitment,\u201d Gottheimer wrote at the time.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"r-18u37iz\">@POTUS&nbsp;<\/span>stood with&nbsp;<span class=\"r-18u37iz\">@SpeakerPelosi&nbsp;<\/span>and 95% of the&nbsp;<span class=\"r-18u37iz\">@HouseDemocrats&nbsp;<\/span>and said the opposite: that his historic vision for America first requires a Build Back Better reconciliation deal,\u201d Maloney said in response to&nbsp;Gottheimer\u2019s stern statement to Pelosi.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"8.7756232686981\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This afternoon <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@POTUS<\/a> stood with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerPelosi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SpeakerPelosi<\/a> and 95% of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseDemocrats?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HouseDemocrats<\/a> and said the opposite: that his historic vision for America first requires a Build Back Better reconciliation deal. That\u2019s the way a bipartisan infrastructure bill will win the votes to become law. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/77y2VXJsQg\">https:\/\/t.co\/77y2VXJsQg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sean Patrick Maloney (@RepSeanMaloney) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepSeanMaloney\/status\/1444136629149519874?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 2, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In August, when the Democrats&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/23\/report-dccc-threatens-funds-if-members-oppose-bidens-agenda\/\">struggled<\/a> to find the votes on the&nbsp;so-called \u201cbipartisan\u201d infrastructure law,&nbsp;they reportedly received&nbsp;calls from the Democrat campaign arm, threatening that congressional members would be financially \u201ccut off\u201d if they opposed the plan. The&nbsp;report noted that other leadership members such as&nbsp;House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and some&nbsp;legislative affairs officials from the White House were allegedly making the calls as well. The&nbsp;DCCC deny the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, vulnerable members told Playbook, they imagine Maloney could be using his DCCC chairmanship to elevate his political profile to climb the leadership in the Democrat party, even though it could be at the expense of&nbsp;other members\u2019 political futures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Sean Patrick\u2019s \u2018leadership\u2019 \u2014 and please use air quotes on that \u2014 at the DCCC is the reason why we should not have elected colleagues running that organization,\u201d one member said, slamming Maloney.&nbsp;\u201cBecause it\u2019s not about protecting the majority; it\u2019s about Sean Patrick Maloney. \u2026 We\u2019ve got a vanity project.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.103225806452\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There&#8217;s concern that SPM is using DCCC to launch a leadership bid &amp; is doing more to curry favor with progressives than give frontliners the space to win their re-elections.<\/p>\n<p>(Many look back longingly at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepCheri?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RepCheri<\/a>, who did the opposite) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Fud2q3LreT\">https:\/\/t.co\/Fud2q3LreT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rachael Bade (@rachaelmbade) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rachaelmbade\/status\/1471863540764057604?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Despite all of this, the DCCC \u201cstrongly refutes\u201d the notion that&nbsp;Maloney has been focused on anything other than his job to keep the majority in the House.&nbsp;\u201cWe agree completely, this election will be won on our record of results, not by talking about Trump,\u201d said DCCC spokesman Chris Hayden.&nbsp;\u201cThat\u2019s why Chairman Maloney has been fighting like hell to pass the president\u2019s transformative agenda, which enjoys supermajority support in swing districts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>Jacob Bliss is a reporter for Breitbart News.
