And as usual, the list is a precisely calibrated mix of indie darlings, prestige foreign titles, and woke Hollywood fare \u2014 all seemingly designed to further ingratiate him with the elite tastemaker crowd, as if their political fealty was ever in doubt.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Also on Obama\u2019s list was another woke box-office bomb, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/10\/18\/disneys-woke-the-last-duel-bombs-matt-damon-ben-affleck-drama-tackles-mansplaining-and-toxic-masculinity\/\">#MeToo medieval drama<\/a> <em>The Last Duel,<\/em> starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.9326923076923\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Next up are my favorite movies of the year. Each of these films tells a powerful story, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/peFGiaTvby\">pic.twitter.com\/peFGiaTvby<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Barack Obama (@BarackObama) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BarackObama\/status\/1471549865247260677?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 16, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>West Side Story<\/em>, adapted from the classic stage musical, has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/12\/11\/nolte-steven-spielbergs-woke-west-side-story-bombs-with-10m-opening\/\">resounding box-office flop<\/a>, grossing a paltry $10.6 million on its opening weekend, well short of already-depressed forecasts of between $12 million to $17 million. The movie, which reportedly cost close to $100 million to make, drew widespread backlash for its lack of English subtitles during Spanish-language scenes, a deliberate choice Spielberg made to not give \u201cEnglish the power over the Spanish.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Actress Rachel Zegler further alienated audiences by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/12\/13\/west-side-story-star-rachel-zegler-on-subtitle-controversy-its-2021-learn-spanish\/\">shaming Americans who don\u2019t speak Spanish<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Spielberg was one of Obama\u2019s biggest Hollywood donors. In one instance, the filmmaker gave $1 million to the Obama super PAC Priorities USA in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The mainstream media has aggressively promoted <em>West Side Story<\/em> with an endless run of puff piece, with many critics declaring it&nbsp;one of the best movies of the year.
