(Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The HHS rules modify Medicare\u2019s Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, a scoring rubric determining doctors\u2019 reimbursement rates. \u201cAnti-racism\u201d is now on the list of \u201cimprovement activities\u201d that go rewarded by the payment system. In addition, the activities are either \u201cmedium\u201d or \u201chigh-weighted,\u201d with \u201canti-racism\u201d plans falling in the latter, therefore giving doctors extra incentive to implement them.<\/p>\n<p>The highest possible bonus a doctor can receive is reportedly 1.79 percent of their Medicare reimbursements.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to \u201canti-racism\u201d plans, doctors may boost their reimbursements by implementing \u201ca Trauma-Informed Care Approach to Clinical Practice.\u201d This approach must seek to \u201cavoid re-traumatizing or triggering past trauma,\u201d&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-administration-offers-bonus-to-doctors-who-implement-anti-racism-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cmulti-generational trauma, whereby experiences that traumatized earlier generations, such as the genocide of Native American tribes, are passed down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Generational trauma has also been at the&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/18\/style\/self-care\/healing-trauma-racism-wellness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forefront<\/a>&nbsp;of the push for reparations for black Americans. However, the <em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/10\/health\/mind-epigenetics-genes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;evidence for multi-generational trauma was \u201ccircumstantial at best\u201d and it \u201cfalls well short of demonstrating that past human cruelties affect our physiology today.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s Administration will encourage doctors to \u201ccreate and implement an anti-racism plan\u201d by offering bonuses under new U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)\u00a0rules.
