While football remains America\u2019s most popular sport at home, it has made no significant progress in constructing a global fanbase and, to that end, the NFL announced it had designated special markets for its teams to generate energy behind them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>In the announcement, the NFL <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2021\/12\/15\/nfl-publishes-map-falsely-showing-taiwan-as-part-of-china\/\">published<\/a> a map showing that it assigned the Los Angeles Rams the entire nation of China as its \u201cinternational home marketing area.\u201d The map of China, highlighted in red to show it is part of the program, incorrectly including the island of Taiwan. The Chinese Communist Party falsely claims, however, that the country is a \u201cprovince\u201d of China and that its democratically elected federal government is a \u201csecessionist\u201d movement. Dictator Xi Jinping and his henchmen regularly threaten a violent invasion of the island to \u201creunite\u201d it with a country it has never been part of.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202112\/1241732.shtml\">applauded<\/a> the NFL for promoting China\u2019s preferred falsehood but laughed off any attempts at encouraging Chinese people to follow American football.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NFL has made some friendly gestures toward China in recent years. In 2020, Chinese player Li Boqiao was included into the list of NFL\u2019s 2020 International Player Pathway Program,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Global Times&nbsp;<\/em>narrated.&nbsp;\u201cIn April 2020, 1.2 million N95 masks were transported on the New England Patriots\u2019 team plane from South China\u2019s Shenzhen to New York state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven so, experts say it makes no sense for the NFL to \u2018go after Chinese money,\u2019 as the current profit generated in the Chinese market lags behind North America and Europe, with China generally not considered a priority market for the league,\u201d the propaganda outlet noted.<\/p>\n<p>An anonymous \u201csports commentator\u201d allegedly went as far as to tell the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> that the NFL may as well oppose China\u2019s false stance on Taiwan, as Americans are increasingly passionate about rejecting Chinese regime bullying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Americans fans care so much about where Taiwan is on the map, there is no reason for the NFL to offend them by taking care of the Chinese market where they have made little progress,\u201d the alleged commentator said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_19169746\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"36\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1229299454.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-19169746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1229299454-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"660\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>This file photo taken on October 11, 2020 shows children and their parents stretching at Hangzhou Clovers American Football Club in Hangzhou, in eastern China\u2019s Zhejiang province. (STR\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The outlet nonetheless <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/09\/tribunal-olympics-host-china-beyond-a-reasonable-doubt-guilty-of-genocide\/\">applauded<\/a> the NFL for showing \u201crespect\u201d to the Chinese Communist Party \u2013 an institution currently engaging in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/09\/tribunal-olympics-host-china-beyond-a-reasonable-doubt-guilty-of-genocide\/\">genocide<\/a> \u2013 by disrespecting Taiwan\u2019s sovereignty. It stopped short of celebrating the NFL in any way, however, instead claiming that the map published this week was vindication for a previous incident ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NFL has lost the opportunity to host games in China about a decade ago after making a mistake regarding the island of Taiwan on a map,\u201d the anonymous \u201csports commentator\u201d said. \u201cIt is always not wise to offend China on the Taiwan question, whether or not they continue to expand the Chinese market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NFL efforts appear to be an attempt to replicate the success the National Basketball League (NBA) \u2013 at the expense of its domestic reputation and human rights record \u2013 has had in China.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike football, basketball is one of the most popular sports in China, reaching national fervor during the peak of Chinese player Yao Ming\u2019s career. The NBA is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/nba\/2019\/10\/09\/nba-china-hong-kong-whats-at-stake\/3912447002\/\">estimated<\/a> to make as much as $500 million in revenue through business with China, which at one point included the establishment of an abusive \u201ctraining camp\u201d in Urumqi, the regional capital of the Uyghur region where the Communist Party is committing genocide. The NBA only shut down the Urumqi facility in 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2020\/07\/23\/nba-terminates-relationship-with-training-center-in-chinas-uyghur-capital\/\">after<\/a>&nbsp;an ESPN expos\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/29553829\/espn-investigation-finds-coaches-nba-china-academies-complained-player-abuse-lack-schooling\">revealed<\/a> extensive abuses at the camp in question, prompting Congressional concern.<\/p>\n<p>The Chinese government has actively <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2021\/04\/26\/china-applauds-return-nba-urges-undertake-lobbying-china-u-s\/\">encouraged<\/a> the NBA to lobby Congress and American politicians to promote Chinese interests and to silence players and staffers who hold opinions contrary to those of the Party. The NBA\u2019s failure to prevent then-Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey from expressing mild support for the anti-communist protests in Hong Kong in 2019 reportedly cost the league hundreds of millions of dollars. (Maddie Meyer\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Beijing has also banned the broadcast of Boston Celtics games in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2021\/11\/12\/enes-kanter-nba-threatened-to-ban-me-for-anti-china-shoes\/\">response<\/a> to player Enes Kanter Freedom enthusiastically opposing China\u2019s genocide of the Uyghur people and suppression of Hongkongers, Tibetans, and political dissidents.<\/p>\n<p>While some in the NBA have defied China\u2019s party line, most abstain from commenting and some players have taken to defending Chinese politics. Veteran player LeBron James notably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2019\/10\/14\/lebron-caves-to-china-blasts-uneducated-rockets-gm-free-speech\/\">criticized<\/a> Morey for defending democratic protesters, complaining that he may have jeopardized James\u2019 personal profits.
