Alexander &amp; Hornung <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/alexander-hornung-recalls-fully-cooked-pork-products-due-possible-listeria\">notified<\/a> the&nbsp;<span>Department of Agriculture\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) after a test revealed positive results for l<\/span><span>isteria monocytogenes bacteria<i>.&nbsp;<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The company expanded the recall to approximately 2,320,774 pounds of ham and pepperoni products, according to a December 11 update from the&nbsp;<span>FSIS.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cThe recall includes Alexander &amp; Hornung branded fully cooked products as well as private label products made for retail customers,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexanderhornung.com\/\">reads<\/a> a statement from the company. Products affected in the recall are labeled with \u201c\u2018<\/span><span>EST. 10125\u2032 inside the USDA mark of inspection.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More than two dozen of the company\u2019s products are affected by the recall.&nbsp; The list of products can be <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/61a937cdc346d41877574d57\/t\/61b3d2116dd2670e932c7bc0\/1639174673159\/recall-046-2021-product-list_with+item+codes.pdf\">viewed<\/a> here, and images of the labels on recalled products can be <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/61a937cdc346d41877574d57\/t\/61b3c99da7976d4c91078186\/1639172509895\/FINALMaster+-+All+Products.pdf\">seen<\/a> here.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The FSIS stated, \u201cThere have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the FSIS:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"17\">\n<p>Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. Persons in the higher-risk categories who experience flu-like symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care and tell the health care provider about eating the contaminated food.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>About 1600 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/listeria\/technical.html#clinical-features\">cases<\/a> of listeria occur annually in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC lists fatality rates at 20 percent, and nearly everyone diagnosed with the illness ends up hospitalized. Additionally, \u201cNearly one-quarter of pregnancy-associated cases result in fetal loss or death of the newborn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consumers who have any of the products are urged to discard them or return them to the place of purchase, according to the FSIS.
