This makes the opera house \u201cthe first major performing arts organization in the city\u201d to announce such a mandate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cWe think we should be setting an example,\u201d the Met\u2019s general manager Peter Gelb said, according to the <em>New York Times<\/em>. \u201cHopefully we will have an influence on other performing arts companies as well. I think it\u2019s just a matter of time \u2014 everyone is going to be doing this.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"7.2565445026178\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dr. Anthony Fauci said Americans may very well require booster shots to maintain protection against the coronavirus. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wrDhcZ0DXC\">https:\/\/t.co\/wrDhcZ0DXC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1381780163852132355?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">\u201cIt\u2019s of paramount importance that the audience members and employees feel safe when they enter the building,\u201d he continued, adding that there is \u201cno question\u201d that \u201cthis is the right move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">Per the <em>Times<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p class=\"css-axufdj evys1bk0\">When the Met\u2019s new rules take effect Jan. 17, people eligible for booster shots will be required to have them to enter the opera house. (There will be a short grace period: People will be allowed in unboosted if the performance falls within two weeks of the date they become eligible for boosters. People who are not yet eligible for their booster shots will still be allowed in.) Inside the opera house, people will be required to wear face masks, except when they are eating or drinking in the limited areas where that is allowed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"css-1jg868a\" readability=\"19.313077939234\">\n<div readability=\"37.660501981506\">\n<p>&nbsp;New York City is already under strict coronavirus restrictions, as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) has gleefully made it virtually impossible for unvaccinated individuals to do everyday things in the city, such as dine at an indoor restaurant or go to a fitness center. However, he is not currently including a booster shot requirement in his Key to NYC vaccine passport system. Nonetheless, he recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/06\/bill-de-blasios-ultimatum-parents-get-your-child-vaccinated-or-cannot-go-indoor-restaurants\/\">extended<\/a> requirements to children ages 5-11, meaning parents who did not get their child vaccinated will not be able to do normal things, such as dine at an indoor restaurant, with their unvaccinated child in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The Met\u2019s requirements suggest that the warning from critics \u2014 who warned that vaccine mandates would eventually include booster shots \u2014 &nbsp;is coming to fruition in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, President Biden is still suggesting it is unpatriotic to be unvaccinated.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.3520599250936\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Joe Biden on mask mandate orders: &#8220;It\u2019s about patriotism.
