While not having much time to study it since its discovery, scientists say the data currently suggests Omicron is highly contagious and may evade antibodies created in response to other variants of the Chinese coronavirus, particularly in vaccinated people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>A study of \u201cCoronavac,\u201d China\u2019s most popular coronavirus vaccine product, conducted by the University of Hong Kong found that the product had zero-percent efficacy in generating sufficient antibodies to prevent an Omicron infection.<\/p>\n<p>Sinovac <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202112\/1241588.shtml\">told<\/a> the Chinese government propaganda outlet&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> on Wednesday that a booster shot would \u201cmore than double\u201d its zero-percent efficacy to about 94 percent against Omicron specifically \u2013 a particularly shocking discovery given \u201cCoronavac\u201d was found to be only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/01\/12\/researchers-chinas-sinovac-coronavirus-shot-20-less-effective-first-claimed\/\">50.38-percent<\/a> effective against the original Chinese coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Sinovac told the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> that it found the miraculous results in two separate recent experiments.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe study was conducted by the company on 20 people who received two shots and another 48 who received three shots,\u201d the outlet<em>&nbsp;<\/em>relayed. \u201cSeven in the first group and 45 in the second tested positive in neutralizing antibodies against the Omicron variant, the company said in a statement to the Global Times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> further reported that Sinovac claimed to obtain \u201ctwo Omicron variants from Hong Kong\u201d to study \u201cCoronavac\u2019s\u201d efficacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe abovementioned study was conducted on one of the variants,\u201d the outlet stated. \u201cThe company said it is still studying the other variant, noting that it is also conducting another study on how the Omicron can affect its vaccine efficacy at different times following vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12508617\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"38\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12508617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1196130108.jpg\" alt=\"TOPSHOT - Medical staff members wearing protective clothing to help stop the spread of a deadly virus which began in the city, walk at the Wuhan Red Cross Hospital in Wuhan on January 25, 2020. - The Chinese army deployed medical specialists on January 25 to the epicentre of a spiralling viral outbreak that has killed 41 people and spread around the world, as millions spent their normally festive Lunar New Year holiday under lockdown. The newspaper may have meant that Sinovac obtained two samples of the same variant, but it did not explain why the company would expect different results when conducting studies on two samples of the same virus.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Chinese newspaper addressed the results of the Hong Kong study, emphasizing that it also found that the vaccine developed by Chinese company Fosun Pharma in conjunction with American company Pfizer also failed the study. Like Sinovac, Pfizer has enthusiastically endorsed the administration of booster shots of its vaccine product. The Pfizer vaccine product <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/world-news\/chinese-vaccine-sinovac-biotech-among-worlds-most-used-flops-vs-omicron-study-2652187\">fared<\/a> better than Sinovac\u2019s, however \u2013 none of the Sinovac patients tested with sufficient antibodies to prevent an Omicron infection, while five of 25 people, or about 20 percent, did appear to have Omicron immunity.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Hong Kong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/15\/china-promotes-cansino-vaccine-for-omicron-as-sinovac-efficacy-plummets\/\">study<\/a> was published in preview before its formal public introduction in the journal&nbsp;<em>Clinical Infectious Diseases<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cCoronavac\u201d has been <a href=\"https:\/\/vdata.nikkei.com\/en\/newsgraphics\/coronavirus-vaccine-status\/\">approved<\/a> in 40 countries or regions as of December. As of June, it was the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3140387\/coronavirus-sinovac-worlds-most-used-vaccine-how-good-delta\">most used<\/a> vaccine product against the Chinese coronavirus \u2013 potentially exposing entire continents to severe Omicron outbreaks, presuming the University of Hong Kong\u2019s data is accurate. (AP Photo\/Ginnette Riquelme)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sinovac helped by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/03\/09\/china-claims-its-50-effective-coronavirus-vaccine-now-up-90\/\">claiming<\/a>, after tests showed it had 50.38 percent efficacy, that later studies found it between 80-90-percent effective against the original strain of Chinese coronavirus, without explaining where that number came from.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/12\/15\/china-promotes-cansino-vaccine-for-omicron-as-sinovac-efficacy-plummets\/\">promoted<\/a> a \u201cCoronavac\u201d rival, the product developed by small Chinese pharmaceutical company CanSinoBIO, as an alternative with better success against Omicron on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanSinoBIO told the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em>&nbsp;on Tuesday that after one dose \u2026 the pseudovirus neutralizing antibodies against Omicron will only have a slight decrease compared with the original strain of the coronavirus,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Times<\/em>&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202112\/1241492.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">claimed<\/a>, \u201cwhich means that the vaccine\u2019s effectiveness in face of Omicron is just slightly lower than of the original type of the coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CanSino had recorded a 65.7-percent efficacy rating in its first tests against the original Chinese coronavirus. It did not become part of China\u2019s global distribution campaign at the scale of Sinovac\u2019s product in part because the company is small and could not produce as much of its product as Sinovac could and because the company was slow to publish critical Phase III trial data.<\/p>\n<p>The W.H.O. has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/who-sees-unprecedented-omicron-spread-probably-in-most-countries\/\">warned<\/a> world leaders that Omicron is extremely contagious and may soon crowd out the currently dominant coronavirus variant, the Indian-origin \u201cDelta.\u201d The U.N. agency has also urged the world to disregard the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/south-african-doctors-see-signs-omicron-is-milder-than-delta\/\">claims<\/a> by South African doctors actively treating patients and public health celebrities like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/07\/anthony-fauci-omicron-variant-might-even-be-less-severe-than-delta\/\">Anthony Fauci<\/a> that Omicron presents with mild symptoms, claiming, \u201cwe could be setting ourselves up for a dangerous situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>South African doctors first identified Omicron as a separate variant with far more mutations than previous discoveries in November. Following the warning from South Africa, several European nations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/30\/report-omicron-variant-present-in-europe-before-identified-in-south-africa\/\">admitted<\/a> they had evidence that Omicron was spreading there before it reached the African continent.
