As one source said, \u201cHe got away with it because he would call himself out for it\u2014saying he was a big teddy bear, saying things like, \u2018Oh you know me, just a big bowl of mush, I\u2019m a hugger. I just love you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the interview, Garlin said, \u201cThere has been an HR investigation on me the past three years. HR has come to me three years in a row for my behavior on set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When told that people \u201cfelt demeaned and disrespected multiple times by language you used on set, and by some of your physical actions,\u201d he said\u2026<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"18\">\n<p>I gotta be honest with you. I don\u2019t even know how to respond to that, because as a comedian, if somebody is offended by what I say I, all I can say is, I\u2019m sorry. Okay? I have never physically come at anyone, for any reason, so&nbsp;<em>that<\/em>&nbsp;I find terribly confusing and untrue. Look, I\u2019ve discussed this with the main crew. The camera department, the sound department, the lighting department, and all of these people who worked on my own movie\u2014I did a movie for Netflix called&nbsp;<em>Handsome<\/em>\u2014never have any problems. There was nothing. So whoever it is that feels this way has it out for me. That\u2019s my true belief. I would never physically put myself to someone. And I would never hatefully say something to anyone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>About his hugging, he explained it this way:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p>I am a person who hugs for sure. And it\u2019s quick hugs, but I didn\u2019t realize that anyone was feeling\u2014so if you want to write that story, that\u2019s a true story. It puts the onus on them to say something, and I would gladly respect anyone who said, \u201cPlease don\u2019t hug me. Garlin is off the show, and no one is using the word \u201cfired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to sources, a mutual agreement was reached today that Garlin will not be returning to the show. His exit is effective immediately. Reps for Sony Pictures Television, which produces the comedy, had no comment,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/12\/jeff-garlin-exit-the-goldbergs-hr-investigations-season-9-1234892030\/\">reports<\/a> the far-left Deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Deadline also went into <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/12\/jeff-garlin-exit-the-goldbergs-hr-investigations-season-9-1234892030\/\">more detail<\/a> over the allegations:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"28\">\n<p>Overall, Garlin\u2019s go-to jokes that a number of people on the show found offensive were talking about grandma\u2019s vagina, balls and brassier, a co-worker said. Additionally, he would not address some longtime female crew members by name, using instead nicknames that some also considered offensive.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>According to an eyewitness of the incident, Garlin did not appear to be joking as he walked behind the female stand-in. \u201cHe screamed at her, \u2018why are you always in my way? Get the f*ck out of my way\u2019 as she was walking down the ramp on the set after they had done blocking for a scene. She was confused and looked around.\u201d Garlin then turned to the woman\u2019s husband,, saying, \u201ctell your wife to get the f*ck out of my way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to sources, cast and crew were appalled, and \u201cthis was the straw that broke the camel\u2019s back\u201d in terms of their tolerance for Garlin\u2019s antics, leading to new HR complaints.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In his <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> interview, Garlin said the ramp incident was just a joke.<\/p>\n<p>The question now is what happens to Garlin on HBO\u2019s <em>Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>, where he\u2019s been an integral part of that fantastic show for more than 20 years. He plays Larry David\u2019s manager and best friend. They have amazing chemistry, and it\u2019s hard to see the show not taking a serious creative hit without him.<\/p>\n<p>What I find a bit odd about this \u201cmisbehavior\u201d scandal is that, at least according to what I\u2019ve read and heard, Larry David has a zero-tolerance policy for misbehavior on the <em>Curb<\/em> set. He likes things loose, funny, and chummy. Anyone who brings tension or stress gets the boot. So this doesn\u2019t really jibe with the way Garlin\u2019s behavior has been characterized on the <em>Goldbergs\u2019<\/em> set.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll go even further and say that even if the allegations against Garlin are true, so what? You\u2019re gonna fire a guy for losing his temper one time? For his own way of expressing himself?
