Alan Lowenthal announced his retirement Thursday after a decade in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Lowenthal, who was first elected to California\u2019s Long Beach-based 47th district in 2012, is the 20th House Democrat to announce they would not seek reelection ahead of the 2022 midterms. He said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/lowenthal.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-alan-lowenthal-announces-he-will-not-seek-reelection-congress-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a> that it was \u201ctime to pass the baton.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time to rest and surround myself with the benefits of a life well lived and earned honorably in the service of my fellow citizens,\u201d Lowenthal added, saying that he was looking forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"10.241758241758\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">After serving the 47th District of California for almost 10 years in Washington, D.C., I have decided not to run for reelection to Congress in 2022. Among those are Reps. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/29\/adam-kinzinger-donald-trump-retire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adam Kinzinger<\/a> of Illinois and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/03\/22\/tom-reed-congress-new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tom Reed<\/a> of New York, the former chair of the bipartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/25\/problem-solvers-caucus-take-charge-biden-call-unity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Problem Solvers Caucus<\/a>, and Rep.
