That epithet sparked outrage which ultimately led to her removal \u2014 based on media reports \u2014 appears to have forced affiliated employees to question whether the abortion conglomerate truly supports minorities.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/opinion-planned-parenthood-is-the-greatest-threat-to-black-lives-in-america\">&nbsp;founded by a eugenicis<\/a>t and has appeared to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2020\/09\/23\/planned-parenthood-puts-86-of-its-abortion-facilities-in-minority-neighborhoods\/\">target minorities for abortion.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/chris-charbonneau-40-year-planned-parenthood-veteran-removed-as-ceo\/?amp=1\">reported<\/a> that \u201cChris Charbonneau, a formidable figure in reproductive rights who worked for Planned Parenthood for<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>nearly 40 years<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>and expanded the Seattle-based affiliate across six states, including&nbsp;<a class=\"content-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/seattle-based-planned-parenthood-ventures-into-indiana-and-kentucky-giving-a-blue-state-boost-to-red-state-clinics\/\">two in the Midwest<\/a>, has been removed from her position as the organization\u2019s CEO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The paper adds that Charbonneau admitted to using the word while quoting a conversation, but denies that she did not push back against the donor who said it:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe board of Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky made the move last week after a donor this fall used a racist term in a meeting referring to Black people, and Charbonneau repeated the word while discussing the meeting with another staffer<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>That much is not in dispute. Charbonneau and the board, however, have differing accounts of how she reacted to the donor\u2019s use of the word, which the former CEO said was in the context of comparing the treatment of women impacted by abortion restrictions to the mistreatment of Black people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n[\u2026]\n<p><em>Charbonneau, who is white, said she recoiled and told the donor, also white, she shouldn\u2019t have used the word. While Charbonneau has not been given a copy of the investigation\u2019s findings, she said she was told by the board they found her account of the meeting truthful.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Charbonneau\u2019s reported actions led to several resignations and inner turmoil. \u201cBefore Charbonneau was removed, two senior staffers quit, including the person with whom she discussed the donor meeting,\u201d the paper reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot in good conscience continue to be part of an organization that fails to seriously respond to this degree of racism,\u201d Erika Croxton, then the vice president of external affairs,said in a resignation letter.<\/p>\n<p>The saga started when a donor at a pizza shop meeting made a comparison between the historical treatment of black people in the United States and women in Texas under the state\u2019s new pro-life law:<\/p>\n<p><em>Charbonneau said the donor voiced anger. \u201cThey\u2019re trying to make women the new N-word,\u201d the donor said, according to Charbonneau, except the donor used the actual term. Charbonneau did not name the donor, saying it would violate Planned Parenthood\u2019s confidentiality rules.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Charbonneau said the donor \u2014 whose money was eventually returned \u2014 told her in a subsequent phone call the comparison was inspired by a book she was reading on racial justice. Charbonneau said she could not recall the name of the book, and did not know if it specifically compared women\u2019s experiences with black people\u2019s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>During the dinner, the donor quickly said she shouldn\u2019t have said that, according to Charbonneau. \u201cNo, you shouldn\u2019t have,\u201d Charbonneau said she replied.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But when Charbonneau tried to report the incident, her recounting of the story got her in trouble. The aforementioned Croxton and another employee who overheard the conversation resigned. Then legal discussions and internal investigations began which led to Charbonneau opting to be removed from her $350,000 per year job.<\/p>\n<p>Following her ouster, the Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky board released a statement, saying, \u201cThis is a critical moment for the pursuit and provision of sexual and reproductive health access and care, including abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is our work and our mission, and it calls us to center equity in all that we do. We are more committed than ever to providing excellent and equitable care, education, and advocacy for our patients and communities, now and into the future, no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Times also reported that a former board member and college academic, Donna Kerr, also said she was in \u201cshock\u201d upon hearing Charbonneau was no longer working at America\u2019s largest abortion provider. Kerr said she was \u201clegendary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, this saga was the latest evidence of what critics say is a series of \u201cmicroaggressions\u201d within Planned Parenthood.
