Garner famously drove him to the rehab center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything you read [in the news about the divorce] was bulls***,\u201d Affleck claimed. \u201cThe truth was we took our time; we made our decision \u2026 We grew apart. We had a marriage that didn\u2019t work. This happens. She\u2019s somebody I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn\u2019t be married any longer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did it amicably,\u201d he contended. \u201cWe did our best. Did we have moments of tension? Did we have disagreements over custody? Was stuff difficult for us? Did we get angry? Yes, but fundamentally it was always underpinned with a respect. \u2026 I knew she was a good mom. I always hoped she knew I was a good dad. I knew I was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking generally of addiction, Affleck said the \u201ccure\u201d for the issue is \u201csuffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cure for addiction is suffering, you suffer enough, that something inside you goes, \u2018I\u2019m done,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m lucky because I hit that point before I lost the things that were most important. Not my career or money \u2014 it was my relationship with my kids, and when I felt as if it impacted them, I recognized it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the worst day of my life.
