Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/GettyImages-1210057614-e1639520146122-640x335-1.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">The birthrate of Italian citizens fell to a record low in 2020, with the country recording just 1.17 births per woman, while the average for all Italian residents was just 1.24 per woman.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the country saw&nbsp;404,892 during the pandemic year, down 15,000 from 2019 with November and December seeing the largest drops in births at a decline of 8.3 per cent and 10.7 per cent respectively, according to the Italian statistics agency Istat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Births in Italy have decreased by nearly 30 per cent since 2008, with couples in which both partners are Italians seeing the largest decline, while the number of births with at least one foreign parent has also decreased but now make up around 21.8 per cent of all births in Italy, <em>Il Giornale<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilgiornale.it\/news\/cronache\/istat-nuovo-record-negativo-delle-nascite-1995838.html\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Between 1976 and 1995 Italy saw another decline in birth rates which led to an all-time low of 1.19 children per woman but had been lifted slightly, due to immigration levels of younger people from abroad but statistics show that the contribution to the birth rate from immigration has declined over time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"9.2470119521912\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Spain\u2019s birthrate declined by over five per cent during 2020, further reducing the already low birthrate in the country, while the mortality rate jumped nearly 18 percent. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OsYn9HnTbJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/OsYn9HnTbJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1469775189089079299?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 11, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Some Italian politicians, such as populist League leader Matteo Salvini, have<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/28\/salvini-rejects-substituting-10-million-italians-with-migrants-backs-family-friendly-policies-instead\/\"> entirely rejected<\/a> the idea of using immigration to solve Italy\u2019s ageing demographic issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy objective is to give economic serenity to Italians to encourage them to have children,\u201d Salvini said in November. \u201cI refuse to think of substituting ten million Italians with ten million migrants,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics from January to September of this year have also shown that the birthrate in Italy could be declining further in 2021, with 12,500 fower births reported as the same period in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Italy is not unique in reporting a birthrate decline for the first year of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. In Spain, the birthrate declined by over five per cent in 2020, with the birth rate sitting at just 1.19 children per woman, down from 1.24 in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Like Italy, Spain has seen a decline in birth rates for decades and has not seen a replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman since 1980.<\/p>\n<p>During the pandemic, Spain also saw the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/14\/spain-saw-highest-suicide-numbers-ever-recorded-in-year-of-covid-lockdown\/\">highest number of recorded suicides<\/a> in its history since statistics began to be kept in 1906.
