Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) after she said members of Congress \u201cshould be allowed to participate\u201d in stock trading while in office.<\/p>\n<p>Shaub&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/obama-ethics-chief-calls-pelosis-support-of-lawmaker-stock-trading-disgusting-the-opposite-of-ethics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a>&nbsp;Fox News:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>What a disgusting comment. This is the opposite of government ethics. Nobody kidnapped these members of Congress when they were private citizens, dragged them to Washington and forced them to be in Congress. The American people are sick of members of Congress buying and selling stock and creating the appearance of trading on insider information. They should absolutely be banned from trading stocks. Let them buy diversified mutual funds. Let them buy government bonds. But bar them from trading stocks for crying out loud.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Shaub doubled down on his criticism of Pelosi online, posting several tweets criticizing the Speaker of the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s wrong. She is 100% wrong. Nobody put a gun to anyone\u2019s head and said \u2018you must be a member of Congress,\u2019\u201d Shaub said. \u201cWant to trade stocks? Do it. Want to be a member of Congress? Do it. But you have NO BUSINESS doing both! Business Insider released a&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/congress-staff-violated-stock-act-conflicts-of-interest-possible-2021-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;on Monday that found 49 members of Congress and 182 congressional staffers violated the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act.<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi is one of the wealthiest members of Congress because her husband, Paul, is a frequent&nbsp;<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/we-are-free-market-economy-pelosi-rejects-stock-ban-congress-2021-12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trader<\/a>&nbsp;that has made millions of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi\u2019s position puts her at odds with the progressive wing of her party. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) spoke out against lawmaker trading last week, calling the practice \u201cabsolutely ludicrous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is absolutely ludicrous that members of Congress can hold and trade individual stock while in office,\u201d said Ocasio-Cortez. \u201cThe access and influence we have should be exercised for the public interest, not our profit.
