Chan School of Public Health researchers last October found that there was low risk of transmission of the coronavirus on flights.<\/p>\n<p>The report <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn1.sph.harvard.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2443\/2020\/10\/APHI-Phase-I-Press-Release.pdf\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>With its focus on considerations aboard the aircraft, the phase one gate-to-gate report found that, through a layered approach to risk mitigation, the scientific evidence shows a low risk of SARS-COV-2 transmission on aircraft. The report provides evidence that it is possible to leverage technology and modify behavior to allow some near-normal activity while reducing the risks of disease transmission during the COVID-19 crisis. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Analysis from the report shows that ventilation of air on aircraft reduces the possibility of exposure to COVID-19, lower than other common settings, such as a grocery store or indoor restaurant. This effectively counters the proximity travelers are subject to during flights. Because of the frequent exchange of air and HEPA filters on planes, over 99% of the particles containing the virus are removed from cabin air.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/12\/15\/business\/airline-ceos-question-masks-on-plane-rule\/index.html\">reportedly<\/a> enraged by the remarks that the two executives made, saying that he was \u201cshocked\u201d and that it was \u201cimmoral\u201d that \u201cwe still allow unvaccinated people on planes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that the government has taken a very responsible approach to this,\u201d Sara Nelson, the president of the Association of Flight Attendants, said. \u201cWe believe it should continue to stay in place. It\u2019s a workplace safety issue. We do need a consistent message though. It troubles me too to hear different messages.
