James Lankford (R-OK), Rick Scott (R-FL), Pat Toomey (R-PA), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and Mike Braun (R-IN) on Tuesday introduced the Congressional Review of Agency Legal Settlements Act. According to Lankford\u2019s office, the bill \u201cempowers Congress to ensure agencies don\u2019t skirt the formal rulemaking processes of the Administration Procedures Act and misuse federal tax dollars for exorbitant financial awards in legal settlements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Biden administration is going to propose settlements as a way to pay people off, like the $450,000 settlements for illegal border crossers, then the agreements should be subject to congressional disapproval and nullification just like other ill-advised executive actions like vaccine mandates,\u201d Lankford said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Reports emerged in October that the Biden administration planned to pay members of families separated at the border as much as $450,000 apiece. A short time after the reports, Biden said they were \u201cgarbage\u201d and \u201cThat\u2019s not going to happen\u201d \u2014 but a day later White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the president was \u201cperfectly comfortable\u201d with giving payouts to separated families although she did not confirm an amount.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president was \u2013 what he was reacting to was the dollar figure that was mentioned,\u201d Jean-Pierre said.<\/p>\n<p>When Biden was questioned about the reports by the media at a White House briefing, Biden exploded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to ask you, real quick, sir: Where do you stand?\u201d a reporter asked.&nbsp; \u201cYou said last week that this report about migrant families at the border getting payments was \u2018garbage.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, I didn\u2019t say that,\u201d Biden&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-claims-reports-that-his-admin-to-give-illegal-aliens-450000-if-separated-at-border-under-trump-are-garbage\">claimed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s get it straight. You said everybody coming across the border gets $500- \u2014 $450,000,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, here\u2019s the thing: If in fact, because of the outrageous behavior of the last administration, you were coming across the border, whether it was legal or illegal, and you lost your child \u2014 you lost your child \u2014 it\u2019s gone \u2014 you deserve some kind of compensation, no matter what the circumstance,\u201d Biden yelled. \u201cWhat that will be, I have no idea.
