While some fans are excited to learn more about Underwood\u2019s post-\u201cBachelor\u201d life, especially after going public with boyfriend Jordan C. Brown, others say the new series only seeks to exploit the reality star\u2019s popularity and highlights his \u201cwhite privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see the criticism,\u201d Underwood said during an interview on the \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast. \u201cI know that people are upset that I have white privilege and I got a series after coming out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old originally became popular as a contestant on Becca Kufrin\u2019s season of \u201cThe Bachelorette.\u201d After coming in fourth place, Underwood was offered his own season of \u201cThe Bachelor.\u201d The former professional football player chose Cassie Randolph in the \u201cBachelor\u201d finale in 2019. In September 2020, Randolph filed a restraining order against Underwood, claiming he had put a tracking device on her car.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And then in April, Underwood came out publicly during a segment on Good Morning America, citing the restraining order as a \u201chuge wake-up call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He described making the decision to come out, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/pictures\/colton-underwood-responds-to-criticism-of-his-netflix-show\/\">US Weekly<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m sad that it even got to that point to where that had to be my wake-up call and me affecting other people in my life was sort of the moment that I realized I had to come out. Obviously, I wish I would have had the courage to come out without having to be pushed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cBachelor\u201d star also recalls being worried about being found out as gay. \u201cI was very, very concerned and very worried,\u201d Underwood said. \u201cI did hear a rumor that one of the producers ended up finding out that I did hook up with a man, but kept it secret or took care of it, I don\u2019t know. I can\u2019t verify that. Obviously, that was terrifying too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to explain that even though he found some of the show\u2019s producers \u201cattractive,\u201d he never acted on feelings. \u201cI was so good at compartmentalizing my life,\u201d Underwood explained<\/p>\n<p>Later, the \u201cBachelor\u201d star confessed that his status may have affected how the public received his big announcement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t imagine what it\u2019s like to be someone from an underprivileged area to have to come out, and not only risk losing their football [career] but risk losing a house and food and money,\u201d Underwood said. \u201cI never wanted to compare my trauma to anybody else.
