Joe Manchin, multiple outlets reported.<\/p>\n<p>Talks between Biden and Manchin broke down over a child tax credit extension, CNN\u2019s Manu Raju reported. The Build Back Better Act would have extended the $3,600 credit for young children, and $3,000 credit for children ages 6-17 included in the American Rescue Plan (ARP) through 2022, and would not have included a work requirement. Manchin supported the work requirement, while Biden and House Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/joe-biden-no-joe-manchin-work-requirement-child-tax-credit\/\">opposed<\/a> it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" readability=\"11.32\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Talks between Manchin and Biden are NOT going well on Build Back Better, per source familiar with talks. That credit will expire in 2025. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/21\/manchin-reconciliation-avoid-spending\/\">(RELATED: \u2018I\u2019m Comfortable With Zero\u2019: Manchin Reportedly Willing To Tank Reconciliation To Avoid Overspending)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although the Build Back Better Act would only extend the child tax credit through 2022, many Democrats have <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/06\/biden-child-tax-credit-democrats-permanent\/\">called<\/a> for it to be made permanent. If made permanent, the expanded credit would cost American taxpayers nearly $1.6 trillion over a ten-year period, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/system\/files\/2021-12\/57673-BBBA-GrahamSmith-Letter.pdf\">analysis<\/a> from the Congressional Budget Office <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/10\/congressional-budget-office-three-trillion-permanent-programs-joe-biden\/\">found<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manchin also expressed concerns about inflation, following the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/10\/inflation-consumer-price-index-joe-biden-jerome-powell-bureau-labor-statistics\/\">data<\/a> showing that price increases have hit a 39-year high. After the senator described the numbers as \u201calarming,\u201d Biden expressed pessimism that he could convince Manchin to support the social spending package.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know the answer to that,\u201d Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/10\/biden-manchin-build-back-better-inflation\/\">said<\/a> on Dec. 10 when asked about Manchin\u2019s support. \u201cI\u2019m going to be talking to him at the beginning of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden and Manchin spoke on Monday, but the two were unable to reach an agreement. Some Democrats had expressed frustration with Manchin\u2019s ongoing negotiations, arguing that he should just vote on the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">I think it is appropriate for him to finally come to a conclusion as to what he will accept,\u201d Illinois Sen. and Majority Whip Dick Durbin <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mkraju\/status\/1471138002894213121\">said<\/a> Wednesday morning. \u201cLet\u2019s go home to our families. Let\u2019s get our job done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Democrats will now turn their attention to election law changes, NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alivitali\/status\/1471156875446136839?s=21\">reported<\/a>. Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock has repeatedly urged the upper chamber to take up elections legislation. The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/14\/democrats-introduce-voting-rights-bll-odds-are-slim-joe-manchin\/\">bill<\/a> under consideration, the Freedom to Vote Act, would make election day a federal holiday and require automatic registration nationwide. It eliminates an unpopular provision from the For the People Act that banned voter identification requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The Freedom to Vote Act is unlikely to pass the Senate, however, with no Republicans expected to support the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The bill \u201csubverts the First Amendment to supercharge cancel culture and the left\u2019s name-and-shame campaign model.
