The city announced a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox29.com\/news\/philadelphia-imposing-vaccine-mandate-on-indoor-dining-establishments-jan-3\">vaccine mandate impacting indoor dining establishments<\/a>&nbsp;would be implemented on Jan. 3 in response to the rising case counts.<\/p>\n<p>They followed up Monday\u2019s mandate announcement with new guidance for holiday gatherings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cPlease do not get together with other households for Christmas,\u201d Philadelphia health commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur contact tracing tells us that these gatherings, when we get together with friends and family, are when we infect each other with COVID,\u201d she added.&nbsp;\u201cWe saw it with Thanksgiving, and I worry that people who were getting together then likely contributed to the cases we\u2019re seeing now.<\/p>\n<p>Bettigole also called on residents to avoid hosting or attending indoor holiday gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead, profess your brotherly love and sisterly affection by wearing your mask, by avoiding crowded indoor spaces, by staying home if you\u2019re sick, and by getting every dose of COVID vaccine that you\u2019re eligible for,\u201d Bettigole said.<\/p>\n<p>White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci recently said that fully-vaccinated individuals&nbsp; \u201ccan feel good about enjoying a typical\u201d holiday event, but still urged them to wear masks inside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when you\u2019re with your family at home, goodness, enjoy it with your parents, your children, your grandparents.
