The same day, Philadelphia announced proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required to to dine indoors at bars, restaurants, indoor sporting events and other food-related establishments.<\/p>\n<p>From the day Omicron was first revealed, right around Thanksgiving, the mainstream media has gone hog-wild over the story (\u201cif it bleeds, it leads,\u201d goes the old journalism saying). But despite the breathless headlines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said this week that there were just 43 cases of Omicron detected in the U.S. during the first eight days of December.<\/p>\n<p>Among the small number, 34 were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and 14 had also received a booster shot. And just one of those suffering from Omicron was briefly hospitalized. All else were mild cases.<\/p>\n<p>After the variant emerged, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Omicron poses a \u201cvery high\u201d global risk and could bypass even those who have been vaccinated. The strain is a \u201chighly divergent variant with a high number of mutations\u2026 some of which are concerning and may be associated with immune escape potential and higher transmissibility,\u201d the U.N. agency said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe overall global risk related to the new variant \u2026 is assessed as very high,\u201d WHO said, adding that Omicron \u201chas an unprecedented number of spike mutations, some of which are concerning for their potential impact on the trajectory of the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But a doctor in South Africa said shortly after Omicron emerged that\u2019s not what he was seeing. \u201cDr. Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of South African Medical Association, told Reuters that on 18 November she noticed seven patients at her clinic who had symptoms different from the dominant Delta variant, albeit \u2018very mild.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir symptoms were so different and so mild from those I had treated before,\u201d Coetzee told&nbsp;The Telegraph, noting they could be \u201ctreated at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So early on, doctors \u2014 and remember, the liberals all \u201cfollow the science\u201d \u2014 said Omicron was not nearly as dangerous as the first strains of COVID-19 that emerged two years ago. But that didn\u2019t stop the MSM from hyping the virus, prompting government officials to ramp up response.<\/p>\n<p>Then on Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, an immunologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases who serves as President Joe Biden\u2019s chief medical adviser on COVID-19, said \u201cthe early data indicates that Omicron may not pose as great a risk of serious illness as the Delta variant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press finally summed on Monday in a piece headlined, \u201cData indicate omicron is milder, better at evading vaccines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe omicron variant is offering more hints about what it may have in store as it spreads around the globe: A highly transmissible virus that may cause less severe disease, and one that can be slowed \u2014 but not stopped \u2014 by today\u2019s vaccines,\u201d said the AP.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this could all change. But there was one Democrat who had quite enough of the hype. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis this week declared the COVID-19 emergency \u201cover\u201d and said he will not be ordering another statewide mask mandate in response to respond to the emergence of the Omicron variant in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe emergency is over,\u201d Polis said. \u201cYou know, public health [officials] don\u2019t get to tell people what to wear; that\u2019s just not their job. Public health [officials] would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses]. But that\u2019s not something that you require; you don\u2019t tell people what to wear. You don\u2019t tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it\u2019s their own darn fault,\u201d he said, according to the New York Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody had more than enough opportunity to get vaccinated,\u201d Polis told Colorado Public Radio on Friday, according to the Post. \u201cHopefully it\u2019s been at your pharmacy, your grocery store, a bus near you, [or at] big events. At this point, if you haven\u2019t been vaccinated, it\u2019s really your own darn fault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how it\u2019s always been. Get the vaccine, don\u2019t, it\u2019s your choice (this is still America, after all). But if you don\u2019t get the shots and get the virus, well, that\u2019s your fault.<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2019re vaccinated, the early data shows you\u2019re fairly well protected from Omicron.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the mainstream media and all those liberal lawmakers should\u2019ve waited a tick to get, you know, the FACTS before over-reacting.
