The U.K. is faced with an increasingly hostile and unpredictable international environment but the Government is still reducing funding, retiring capability and asking the Navy to rely on increasingly elderly vessels for the next five years until new ships come in,\u201d Defense Committee Chairman Tobias Ellwood&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/royal-navy-mps-ben-wallace-hms-queen-elizabeth-tobias-ellwood-b971771.html\">told the Evening Standard.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The report says the navy\u2019s Type 23 frigates and Trafalgar class submarines should have been replaced years ago, as it becomes more challenging and expensive to maintain the aging vessels.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.5838926174497\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">British Carrier-Based F-35 Jet Crashes in Mediterranean, Pilot Safe <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T1xdSUtRLp\">https:\/\/t.co\/T1xdSUtRLp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1460998049904353289?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Currently funded replacement vessels already under construction would only serve to maintain, but not increase the size of the fleet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Three naval ships are due to be retired before their replacements are available for service.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond size, the report also took issue with the fleet\u2019s capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen ships do get to sea they act like porcupines \u2014 well defended herbivores with limited offensive capabilities.
