In Texas, immigration stood out in a way it didn\u2019t elsewhere in the country. Views on Trump\u2019s immigration agenda powerfully sorted Hispanic independents between the two presidential candidates: hardliners with Trump, opponents with Biden.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_19136498\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"32\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/12\/Chart-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-19136498\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Chart-1-1024x568-1.png\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"549\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Primacy of immigration and Latino solidarity both dropped from 2016 to 2020<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Looking forward to the 2022 and 2024 elections, the report warned Democrats:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>Who is perceived to be better for American workers? Democrats retain some natural credibility with Latino voters but have lost ground on workers, work and the American Dream; they\u2019re also open to attack for taking Hispanics for granted; Republicans have some openings but are still held back by their image as the uncaring party of big corporations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The report\u2019s authors sought to downplay the economic appeal of Trump\u2019s curbs on immigration, and to play up the GOP\u2019s claim that the Democrats favor \u201csocialist\u201d policies.<\/p>\n<p>That anti-socialist message is catnip for the GOP\u2019s business wing, which wants to import more consumers and workers while loudly denouncing \u2018the Democrats\u2019 high-tax, high-regulation priorities as \u201csocialism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report describes Latino\u2019s response to the GOP\u2019s \u201csocialist\u201d talking point:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>There isn\u2019t one overriding concern about \u201csocialism\u201d\u2014 but a package of complaints usually rises to the top (around government control over people\u2019s lives, raising taxes, and money going to \u201cunderserving\u201d recipients). If a through-line exists, it is a worry over people becoming \u201clazy &amp; dependent on government\u201d by those who highly value \u201chard work.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But the GOP has a core weakness among Latino votes, said the report:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p>The Republicans have a bigger albatross: for all their efforts to rebrand as a working class party, Hispanics largely identify the GOP as the uncaring party of big corporations and the rich.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2021, the corporate-funded GOP establishment has downplayed the pocketbook impact of migration on voters, including Latino voters. Instead, it has tried to focus attention on border chaos, drug smuggling, crime, and other non-economic burdens of the Democrats\u2019 loose borders. As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/12\/10\/only-41-percent-voters-trust-republicans-immigration-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only 41 percent of voters<\/a> say they trust the GOP\u2019s immigration policies, according to a recent survey.<\/p>\n<p>Some GOP leaders, however, are pushing for migration reforms that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/12\/09\/rep-banks-introduces-gop-bill-to-curb-fortune-500s-use-of-visa-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would directly help voters\u2019 pocketbooks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of Democrats are warning the party to move towards the Trump center on economics and migration \u2014 even as the party is backing a massive increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/11\/migration-advocates-build-back-better-will-shrink-inflation-by-cutting-wage-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wage-cutting migration<\/a>&nbsp;that is hidden in the Build Back Better legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Democrats are steadily losing ground with Hispanic voters,\u201d Democratic strategic Ruy Teixeira wrote December 10 on his substack blog,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theliberalpatriot.substack.com\/p\/the-democrats-hispanic-voter-problem-dfc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Liberal Patriot<\/a>. He continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"16\">\n<p>The seriousness of this problem tends to be underestimated in Democratic circles for a couple of reasons: (1) they don\u2019t realize how big the shift is; and (2) they don\u2019t realize how thoroughly it undermines the most influential Democratic theory of the case for building their coalition.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>It therefore follows that, if Hispanic voting trends continue to move steadily against the Democrats, the pro-Democratic effect of nonwhite population growth will be blunted, if not cancelled out entirely, and that very influential Democratic theory of the case falls apart. That could\u2014or should\u2014provoke quite a sea change in Democratic thinking.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Democrats \u201cwould be on much stronger ground [in 2024] if they became identified with an inclusive nationalism that emphasizes what Americans have in common and their right not just to economic prosperity but to public safety, secure borders and a world-class but non-ideological education for their children,\u201d Teixeira <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/12\/09\/liberal-strategist-democrats-should-mimic-donald-trumps-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;December 3.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. government\u2019s post-1986, bipartisan economic policy of extraction migration is deeply <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tag\/immigration-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unpopular<\/a> because it damages ordinary Americans\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/03\/12\/bloomberg-opts-h1bs-take-two-three-new-tech-jobs-each-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">career<\/a>&nbsp;opportunities, cuts their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2021\/04\/08\/elite-academics-hide-amnesty-wage-pain-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wages<\/a>, and raises their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/06\/16\/new-yorks-mayoral-rivals-vow-cheap-housing-plus-more-migrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">housing costs.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The invited migration also curbs Americans\u2019&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/07\/11\/president-trump-wins-big-on-secret-meatpacking-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">productivity<\/a>, shrinks their political&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS946US946&amp;oq=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com+%22john+binder%22+%22demographic+change%22&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.10228j0j4&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">clout<\/a>, widens&nbsp;regional wealth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/13\/zuckerbergs-data-says-amnesty-gives-economic-windfall-coastal-democratic-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gaps<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/01\/survey-elite-imposed-migration-is-transforming-national-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">radicalizes<\/a>&nbsp;their democratic, compromise-promoting civic&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/search\/?s=%22white+supremacy%22#gsc.tab=0&amp;gsc.q=%22white%20supremacy%22&amp;gsc.page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">culture<\/a>, and allows the elites to ignore <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Diseases_of_despair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">despairing Americans<\/a>&nbsp;at the&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JorgeAl49986803\/status\/1439791277571145737?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">bottom of society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/03\/30\/harvard-harris-poll-5-in-6-americans-want-to-end-immigration-from-mexico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wide<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/01\/14\/poll-americans-want-companies-hire-americans-before-migrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">variety<\/a>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/04\/13\/ipsos-poll-nearly-8-in-10-americans-want-immigration-moratorium-for-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pollsters<\/a>&nbsp;have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2019\/08\/05\/poll-swing-voters-hugely-oppose-2020-democrats-promising-more-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shown<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2020\/04\/24\/poll-trumps-opponents-applaud-his-jobs-for-americans-immigration-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deep<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2017\/01\/31\/poll-shows-public-support-trump-migration-poicy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broad<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/05\/28\/business-poll-backfires-shows-public-wants-less-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/11\/16\/exit-polls-3-in-4-voters-want-less-immigration-during-and-after-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labor migration<\/a>&nbsp;and the inflow of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/08\/06\/ipsos-poll-public-opposes-migrant-workers-by-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporary<\/a>&nbsp;contract workers&nbsp;into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.<\/p>\n<p>This&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/03\/05\/survey-americans-underestimate-quiet-public-opposition-to-legal-migration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposition<\/a>&nbsp;is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2020\/04\/29\/washington-post-poll-hispanics-are-the-strongest-opponents-of-immigration\/\"
