Last, week the railroad told Congress it anticipated \u201cproactively needing to temporarily reduce some train frequencies across our network\u201d because of the mandate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.5935828877005\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Breaking: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Amtrak?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Amtrak<\/a> suspends vaccine mandate and no longer expects to have to cut some service in January <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zBbj6QXjBg\">pic.twitter.com\/zBbj6QXjBg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 davidshepardson (@davidshepardson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidshepardson\/status\/1470835282173911041?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>When asked during a press briefing about Amtrak\u2019s decision, White House press secretary Jen Psaki <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mgroppe\/status\/1470842108135284740\">noted<\/a> that 96 percent of its employees have been vaccinated against the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s a pretty high number,\u201d Psaki told reporters. \u201cI don\u2019t think we have any concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last week,&nbsp;Amtrak said it expected to temporarily cut some service in January due to labor shortages stemming from the Biden administration\u2019s vaccine mandate which&nbsp;requires employees of government contractors to be fully jabbed by January 4th.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/about.bgov.com\/news\/amtrak-to-cut-2022-service-as-workforce-shrinks-on-shot-refusals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Bloomberg News<\/a>&nbsp;reported at the time:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14\">\n<p>As Amtrak prepares to comply with the federal vaccine mandate, it will likely need to temporarily reduce frequency, particularly on its long-distance services, Stephen J. Gardner, president of Amtrak, said in written testimony for a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing. About 94% of the rail company\u2019s workers have been fully vaccinated as of this week. [\u2026] The problem is most acute on multi-day routes, where crew bases at some intermediate points have relatively lower rates of vaccinated employees.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAchieving full service levels, while complying with the vaccination requirement and continuing to prioritize the safety of our customers and employees, is our goal,\u201d Gardner testified.<\/p>\n<p>Some Republican lawmakers expressed frustration with the impending labor shortages due to the vaccine mandate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmtrak just got about $60 billion in new funding, but now President Biden\u2019s vaccine mandates are spurring new worker shortages and service cuts, thwarting recovery from historic Amtrak losses last year,\u201d Rep.
