In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/saturday-night-live-alum-chris-kattan-famous-film-cancel-culture\">Fox News<\/a> published Tuesday, Chris Kattan, who starred on \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d from 1996 to 2011, said, \u201cThe reality is that right now, everyone has to be careful about what they say or do.\u201d He later added, \u201cIf you want to do something funny, you can\u2019t be outrageous anymore. You do have to be careful \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kattan is hardly the first SNL alum worrying about cancel culture. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/one-wrong-move-and-youre-canceled-david-spade-worries-cancel-culture-is-ruining-comedy-business\">The Daily Wire<\/a> previously reported, David Spade commented on the subject in August, saying, \u201cYou used to have to say anything to go as far as you could, to push the envelope, to get attention, and people would be like, \u2018I like this guy. He\u2019s pushing it.\u2019 And in comedy clubs, audiences really appreciate that \u2026 Now you say the one wrong move and you\u2019re canceled. It\u2019s a very tough world out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spade\u2019s castmate Rob Schneider has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/9-stars-who-scorched-cancel-culture\">blasted<\/a> the trend as well. When SNL fired newly-hired cast member Shane Gillis over past jokes considered anti-Asian, the \u201cDeuce Bigelow\u201d star posted this message to the younger comedian on Twitter: \u201cAs a former SNL cast member I am sorry that you had the misfortune of being a cast member during this era of cultural unforgiveness where comedic misfires are subject to the intolerable inquisition of those who never risked bombing on stage themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cAn honest, sincere apology and also accepting it seems appropriate as well. Destroying someone does not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The late, great Norm Macdonald joined Schneider in expressing regret to Gillis. \u201cHey, Shane, I\u2019m so sorry. I can\u2019t even imagine how you must feel,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/former-snl-star-norm-macdonald-reacts-firing-shane-amanda-prestigiacomo\">said<\/a> when the incident was making headlines. \u201cThe work it takes to get that show and to have it snatched away by some guy who does \u2018Spoken Bird\u2019 poetry,\u201d he added, referring to Seth Simons, the journalist who posted past jokes from Gillis that sparked the outrage campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Along with Kattan, Schneider, Spade, and Macdonald, a host of other one-time SNL stars have lamented the damage woke mobs who demand comedians only tell jokes they find inoffensive are doing to the comedy business.
