\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Luis Roberto Barroso ruled on Saturday Brazil\u2019s federal government must require all foreign travelers to present proof of vaccination against the Chinese coronavirus before they are allowed entry into the country, Brazil\u2019s Folha Press agency&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/pt-br\/noticias\/brasil\/governo-deve-publicar-nova-portaria-e-cobrar-passaporte-da-vacina-a-partir-desta-segunda-13\/ar-AARJZFJ?ocid=BingNews\">reported<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The new mandate went into effect on December 13 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.folha.uol.com.br\/internacional\/en\/scienceandhealth\/2021\/12\/government-will-publish-new-vaccine-ordinance-requiring-proof-of-covid-19-vaccination-today.shtml\">requires<\/a> anyone traveling to Brazil via international flights or land borders to present a so-called \u201cvaccine passport\u201d to customs and border officials before they may be granted entry.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe rule was imposed after an injunction (provisional) by supreme court justice Lu\u00eds Roberto Barroso, and granted this Saturday [December 11], in a lawsuit presented by the Rede Sustentabilidade party,\u201d Brazil\u2019s <em>Folha de Sao Paulo<\/em>&nbsp;newspaper reported on December 13.<\/p>\n<p>Barroso asked that his ruling \u201cbe sent to [a] referendum in an extraordinary session of the virtual plenary of the [Supreme] Court,\u201d Agencia Brasil <a href=\"https:\/\/agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br\/justica\/noticia\/2021-12stf-determina-exigencia-de-comprovante-de-vacina-para-entrar-no-pais\">reported<\/a> on December 11.<\/p>\n<p>The Rede Sustentabilidade party filed a petition with Brazil\u2019s Supreme Court asking for the body to rule that a previous foreign travel ordinance issued by the government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro \u2014 which allowed for the option of coronavirus testing and did not strictly enforce a vaccine requirement \u2014 be deemed insufficient to prevent coronavirus transmission.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cRede Sustentabilidade \u2026 demand[ed] that the government adopt the so-called \u2018vaccine passport,&#8217;\u201d CNN Brasil <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnnbrasil.com.br\/nacional\/governo-nega-omissao-e-diz-ao-stf-ter-adotado-medidas-para-combater-a-omicron\/\">reported<\/a> on December 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe party accuses the federal administration of having failed to fight the disease for not reviewing restrictions on international arrivals, as recommended by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa),\u201d the news site noted.<\/p>\n<p>President Bolsonaro had in recent days denied Anvisa\u2019s requests \u201cto demand vaccination proof from visitors [to Brazil],\u201d Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/brazilian-supreme-court-justice-mandates-214738933.html\">recalled<\/a> on December 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the land border, the [Bolsonaro] government only wanted to require a negative Covid-19 [Chinese coronavirus] test for those who had not received the immunization,\u201d <em>Folha de Sao Paulo<\/em> noted on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Barroso said in his decision on December 11 Brazil must avoid supporting what he described as \u201cantivaccine tourism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he requirement for proof of vaccination can be waived only when the traveler comes from a country where no vaccines are available or the individual was prevented from vaccination due to health reasons,\u201d Reuters reported on
