Gavin Newsom (D) will reimpose universal indoor mask mandates in the Golden State, even for vaccinated people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">On Monday,&nbsp;California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sacramento.cbslocal.com\/2021\/12\/13\/california-covid-19-indoor-mask-mandate-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> the new mandate&nbsp;due to a spike in cases since Thanksgiving, hailing masks as a \u201ctool we know has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/10\/14\/cdc-study-85-of-coronavirus-patients-reported-wearing-masks-always-or-often\/\">worked<\/a>\u201d despite evidence of the contrary.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is a critical time,\u201d Ghaly said. \u201cWe have a tool we know has worked and can work. We are proactively putting this tool of universal indoor masking in place to ensure we get through a time of joy and hope without a darker cloud of despair. Californians have done this before, and we believe we can do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since Thanksgiving, coronavirus cases have increased 47 percent, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/california-to-reimpose-indoor-mask-mandate\">moving<\/a> from 9.6 cases per 100,000 people per day to 14 cases per 100,000 people per day,\u201d according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>California has thus far <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/California-to-reimpose-statewide-indoor-mask-16699120.php\">reported<\/a> 18 cases of the Omicron variant, which Dr. Anthony Fauci recently<a href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/live-news\/20211207-omicron-variant-almost-certainly-not-more-severe-than-delta-fauci-tells-afp\"> said <\/a>was \u201calmost certainly\u201d not as severe as the Delta variant.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_18978746\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"40\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/12\/dr-fauci-at-the-podium.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-18978746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/dr-fauci-at-the-podium-1024x768-1.jpg\" alt=\"WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 01: Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, takes his face mask off before giving an update on the Omicron COVID-19 variant during the daily press briefing at the White House on December 01, 2021 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt almost certainly is not more severe than Delta,\u201d said Fauci. \u201cThere is some suggestion that it might even be less severe because when you look at some of the cohorts that are being followed in South Africa, the ratio between the number of infections and the number of hospitalizations seems to be less than with Delta.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fauci did, however, caution against making snap judgments about the severity of the Omicron variant until more data had been collected and studied.<\/p>\n<p>The California mandate will go into effect on Wednesday, December 15, and continue through Christmas and New Year\u2019s until January 15. According to Fox News, the mandate will \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/california-to-reimpose-indoor-mask-mandate\">make<\/a> California&nbsp;one of only nine states <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/health\/conditions-treatments\/info-2020\/coronavirus-vaccine-research.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">imposing<\/a> an indoor masking requirement for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated, joining Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Hawaii, New Mexico, Illinois, New York, and Connecticut.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May of this year, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned that seasonal mask-wearing could become permanent in America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think people have gotten used to the fact that wearing masks, clearly if you look at the data, diminishes respiratory diseases,\u201d Fauci <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/clips\/2021\/05\/09\/fauci-quite-possible-seasonal-mask-wearing-will-become-permanent-in-america\/\">told<\/a> Chuck Todd. \u201cYou know we\u2019ve had practically a non-existent flu season this year, merely because people were doing the kind of public health things that were directed predominantly against COVID-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>California Gov.
