Many conservatives read this as the <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/timothymeads\/2019\/10\/24\/newsbusters-shows-the-democratmedia-complex-is-real-n2554921\">Democrat-Media Complex<\/a> engaging in their own form of American Pravda after several news organizations suddenly started touting President Joe Biden\u2019s economy as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hey-thats-weird-media-says-strongest-economy-ever-after-biden-asks-for-help-reshaping-message\">strongest ever<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Readers following that story may have picked up another part of the media\u2019s alleged key plan to rescue the president\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/shock-poll-biden-2024-popularity-dismal-only-22-want-him-on-ticket-harris-even-worse\">cratering poll numbers<\/a>: Rely on nobody reading past the headline.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday morning, White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain tweeted, \u201cGreat to see headlines like this around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klain linked to a story from WCMH Columbus titled: \u201cColumbus Drivers See Another Drop In Gas Prices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Great to see headlines like this around the country:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1ptWBhDbXe\">https:\/\/t.co\/1ptWBhDbXe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ronald Klain (@WHCOS) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WHCOS\/status\/1470390651804168201?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course, readers who actually read the article would see that while Columbus gas prices \u201cdropped 3.4 cents in the last week, to an average of $3.07 a gallon\u201d and are \u201c20.7 cents lower than a month ago,\u201d Columbus drivers are still paying \u201c$1.07 higher than a year ago\u201d for fuel.<\/p>\n<p>WCMH also noted, \u201cNationally, the average price of gas has dropped 2.4 cents to $3.32 a gallon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klain\u2019s tweet came as a separate headline from Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/wages-inflation-economic-data-c912afdb-b950-4183-8283-50afff593576.html\">reported<\/a>: \u201cWorker Pay Isn\u2019t Keeping Up With Inflation.\u201d Unlike the story Klain shared, that headline was truer to the content of the article:<\/p>\n<p><em>For all the hype that wage growth has received this year, pay isn\u2019t keeping up with price growth. Real earnings, or wage growth less inflation, turned sharply negative the last two months, after eeking out gains over the summer, consumer price data out Friday show.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Why it matters:&nbsp;That\u2019s an erosion of spending power, which is a bummer. But for time being, it takes the edge off worries of a wage-price spiral, which happens when higher wages fuel inflation, which fuels the need for even higher wages \u2014 and so on.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, it was announced that inflation rose 6.8% in November. CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/13\/el-erian-says-transitory-was-the-worst-inflation-call-in-the-history-of-the-fed.html\">reported<\/a> Monday morning that experts had said that earlier claims by the Federal Reserve and Biden Administration that inflation was \u201ctransitory\u201d were some of the worst economic predictions ever:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe characterization of inflation as transitory is probably the worst inflation call in the history of the Federal Reserve, and it results in a high probability of a policy mistake,\u201d the former Pimco CEO and current Queens\u2019 College president said Sunday on CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo, the Fed must quickly, starting this week, regain control of the inflation narrative and regain its own credibility,\u201d he added. \u201cOtherwise, it will become a driver of higher inflation expectations that feed onto themselves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All in all, Klain\u2019s attempt to prove the economy is getting better via tweets and out-of-context headlines is likely a futile effort even if Americans don\u2019t read past the headline.
