Democratic leaders have already pledged to bring the charge up for a vote on the House floor where Meadows will likely be <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/585498-january-6-committee-releases-resolution-recommending-holding-meadows-in?rl=1\">held<\/a> in contempt, according to the <em>Hill<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMr. Meadows\u2019s failure to appear for deposition testimony in the face of this clear advisement and warning by the Chairman, and after being given a second chance to cooperate with the Select Committee, constitutes a willful failure to comply with the subpoena,\u201d the committee wrote.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_19065570\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"42\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/12\/January-6-committee-Getty-e1639062896108.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19065570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/January-6-committee-Getty-1024x766-1.jpg\" alt=\"January 6 committee (Drew Angerer \/ Getty)\" width=\"643\" height=\"481\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rep. (Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Meadows, who was former President Donald Trump\u2019s chief of staff during the day of the riot, is accusing the select committee of abusing its powers and undermining the executive privilege authority invoked by Trump and several members of his inner circle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if privileges were applicable to some aspects of Mr. Meadows\u2019s testimony, he was required to appear before the Select Committee for his deposition, answer any questions concerning non-privileged information, and assert any such privilege on a question-by-question basis,\u201d the committee wrote in its resolution.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In a letter to Meadows\u2019 attorney George Terwilliger III, committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MI) charged that the committee had \u201cno choice\u201d but to move forward with \u201ccontempt proceedings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Select Committee is left with no choice but to advance contempt proceedings and recommend that the body in which Mr. Meadows once served refer him for criminal prosecution,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>In a lawsuit filed last week, Meadows charged that the committee had unconstitutionally abused its powers and undermined the president\u2019s executive privilege. As Joel Pollak of Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/09\/pollak-mark-meadows-lawsuit-could-end-the-january-6-committee\/\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"18\">\n<p>Meadows\u2019s lawsuit points out that while the chair of the committee can order subpoenas, that authority is not absolute. H. Res. 503 requires the chair of the committee to consult with the ranking member before issuing a subpoena for a deposition. But the committee has no ranking Republican member, which could make the committee\u2019s subpoenas invalid.<\/p>\n<p>If Meadows\u2019s lawsuit is successful, he could not only block his own subpoena, but could see the entire committee declared invalid. (Photo by SAUL LOEB\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, the committee asserted that even if executive privilege were applicable, he still failed to \u201cappear before the Select Committee for his deposition, answer any questions concerning non-privileged information, and assert any such privilege on a question-by-question basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter promising to appear, Mr. Meadows has now reversed course and resumed his contemptuous behavior.
