Health care workers sought to obtain exemptions from receiving the vaccine, arguing the mandate forced them to choose between their faith and their jobs, but the court\u2019s 6-3 decision rejected that argument.<\/p>\n<p>The majority did not explain its decision, as is common when the court simply declines to hear a case. The dissenters, Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch, argued the mandate would only serve to ostracize religious Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, thousands of New York healthcare workers face the loss of their jobs and eligibility for unemployment benefits,\u201d the justices wrote, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/coronavirus-pandemic-us-supreme-court-health-new-york-neil-gorsuch-69b771d29fa145f7c6b061e0fe421f8c?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=AP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div data-key=\"article\" readability=\"57.946784291406\">\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-54 Component-p-0-2-45\">\u201cToday, our Nation faces not a world war but a pandemic. Santiago\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The decision mirrors the court\u2019s decision in October to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/19\/scotus-vaccine-mandate-breyer-maine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">refuse to block<\/a> a similar state-level vaccine mandate in Maine. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/10\/01\/cbp-agents-covid-vaccine-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Border Patrol Agents Could Be Fired If They Don\u2019t Get Vaccinated For COVID-19)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden imposed a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/09\/joe-biden-require-private-companies-100-more-employees-mandate-vaccines-weekly-testing-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">federal vaccine mandate<\/a> in September requiring all companies with more than 100 employees to ensure their workers are either vaccinated or take a weekly COVID-19 test. The mandate would affect roughly 100 million Americans.<\/p>\n<p>All major portions of the mandate are currently held up in federal courts, however, with federal judges across the country issuing stays on enforcement until the issue can be litigated.
