The tornado killed more than 60 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least I know who will be watching over you up there for me,\u201d&nbsp; the parents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=4649031895174456&amp;set=a.108612932549731\">shared<\/a> via Facebook after announcing their daughter Oaklynn had passed away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod this doesn\u2019t seem real,\u201d the parents added.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the parents shared an update about their daughter\u2019s health:<\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s not looking good guys at all. The machines are keeping her alive. Her head swelled really bad. She doesn\u2019t have activity. So now where going to have to make a decision. I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m writing this write now and I know I haven\u2019t got back to everyone. I\u2019ve gotten so much love for my family. Donations, prayers, call, texts. We love you guys. It really does take a village. Wish I was saying better news and I really thought this was by far of what the outcome was going to be. I\u2019m in shock, my heart feels absolutely shattered. We love you Oakie<\/em><\/p>\n<p>By early Monday morning, she had passed away.<\/p>\n<p>According to the New York Post, Oaklynn\u2019s brother was hospitalized and released Sunday. Likewise, the Koons and nearly the entire town of Dawson Springs had lost untold material items, including their entire house:<\/p>\n<p><em>The family\u2019s home was completely obliterated by the tornado, according to photos posted on social media. Children\u2019s toys could be been scattered among the debris.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chris Smiley, the mayor of Dawson Springs, estimated on Sunday that 75 percent of their small town was wiped out by the tornado.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The New York Post <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/13\/2-month-old-succumbs-to-injuries-from-kentucky-tornadoes\/\">noted<\/a> that the Koons\u2019 update came just before Governor Andy Beshear (D-KY) gave an official update on the death toll Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kentucky-governor-gets-emotional-while-sharing-update-on-tornado-efforts\">reported<\/a> by The Daily Wire, Beshear was emotional during his press conference:<\/p>\n<p><em>Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear struggled to hold back his emotions on Monday as he updated the media regarding recovery efforts in his state following devastating tornadoes over the weekend.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLike the folks in Western Kentucky, I\u2019m not doing so well today,\u201d Beshear said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not sure how many of us are.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Beshear also shared an emotional story regarding his notes for the media update.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI was working on getting the confirmed deaths this morning and realized I was writing on the back of notes that one of my kids took from school. So we\u2019re going to keep putting one foot in front of the other and push through this,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The governor also encouraged residents to get the help they need, promising \u201cwe\u2019re going to be with you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cEverybody get the help you need, take care of yourself, and we\u2019ll continue to provide updates.
