Monday\u2019s announcement builds on that \u201ccall to action,\u201d as she announces new commitments and encourages other companies to continue their investment.<\/p>\n<p>Among the new initiatives announced Monday are a push by Nespresso to support coffee-growing in Honduras and El Salvador, a Microsoft initiative to connect millions of people to the Internet and a $100 million commitment to the region by Mastercard to promote digital payments and e-commerce.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Politico<\/em> Playbook <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/playbook\">reported<\/a> on some of those investments:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"11\">\n<p>Harris this morning is set to announce more than $540 million in commitments to invest in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras from companies and organizations including CARE International, PepsiCo, Mastercard and Microsoft. That\u2019s in addition to $750 million in private-sector money she announced in May.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the Center for Immigration Studies analysis, the migrant <a href=\"https:\/\/cis.org\/Arthur\/AllTime-Record-Southwest-Border-Apprehensions-FY-2021\">surge<\/a> on the U.S. border is a record-breaking crisis:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10.281786941581\">\n<p>Border Patrol <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/documents\/2021-Aug\/US59B8~1.PDF\">provides statistics<\/a> on Southwest border apprehensions stretching back to the Eisenhower administration, in FY 1960.
