This was before any of the real press coverage, the hundreds of op-eds I wrote, all of the appearances that I did on Fox News. He told me \u2018watch your back.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dean said ad hominem attacks and smear campaigns are the Cuomo family\u2019s modus operandi. \u201cThis is how these guys react,\u201d Dean said. \u201cThey don\u2019t try to solve anything: They just attack the person that\u2019s coming after them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dean announced she is filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests \u201cto find out if my name or my family\u2019s name is in any of those official documents, because I want to know if there was a smear campaign against me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she also wondered if any of Chris Cuomo\u2019s media-stifling communications appeared \u201con CNN letterhead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dean had typically restricted her on-air comments to the weather until last year, after Governor Cuomo required nursing homes to admit patients who tested positive for COVID-19, then reportedly covered up the ensuing death toll.<\/p>\n<p>On March 25, 2020, Cuomo issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/dmna.ny.gov\/covid19\/docs\/all\/DOH_COVID19%20_NHAdmissionsReadmissions_%20032520.pdf\">directive<\/a> stating, \u201cNo resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the [nursing home] solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19.\u201d Other Democratic governors \u2014including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/are-the-doj-and-media-letting-gretchen-whitmer-get-away-with-covid-19-nursing-home-deaths\">Gretchen Whitmer&nbsp;<\/a>(Michigan), Tom Wolf (Pennsylvania), and Phil Murphy (New Jersey) \u2014 enacted similar measures.<\/p>\n<p>While the Cuomo administration originally announced only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/timeline-andrew-cuomos-scandalous-covid-19-response\">6,600<\/a>&nbsp;nursing home deaths from the virus, the Department of Health released revised figures in February stating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2021\/02\/11\/ny-health-nursing-home-residents-die-covid\/\">more than 15,000 people<\/a> died from COVID-19 in nursing homes and other related facilities. That accounts for more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/covid-19-killed-14-of-new-yorks-nursing-home-population\">14%<\/a> of New York\u2019s \u201cpre-pandemic nursing home population,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.empirecenter.org\/publications\/the-states-revised-nursing-home-death-toll\/\">according<\/a> to &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.empirecenter.org\/\">The Empire Center<\/a>, the state\u2019s free-market, nonpartisan think tank.<\/p>\n<p>The figure includes Dean\u2019s father-in-law, 83-year-old Mickey Newman \u2014 who died in Brooklyn\u2019s Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on March 29, 2020 \u2014 and her mother-in-law, 79-year-old Dee Newman who died on April 13, 2020, at the Long Island Living Center.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Cuomo resigned in the face of mounting sexual harassment allegations, while CNN fired Chris Cuomo for his role in helping his brother cover up the allegations, as well as a separate legal complaint that Chris had also committed sexual harassment.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News said that Chris Cuomo has refused comment on the latest allegations, but the family has denied that they tried to smear Dean, who has been seen as an effective opponent.
