It shows soldiers marching to commemorate the sacrifices made by members of the German military during the Afghanistan War.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Germany announced restrictions on unvaccinated individuals on Dec. 2, barring them from much of public life, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-59502180\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. Since then, some social media users have been sharing an image of what appears to be torch-wielding German soldiers marching in formation at night, claiming it was taken a week after the restrictions were announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne week after Germany announced a lockdown for the unvaccinated, their soldiers are holding a night march with torches,\u201d reads the image\u2019s caption. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/04\/07\/fact-check-beijing-shanghai-china-coronavirus-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Viral Image Claims Beijing And Shanghai Haven\u2019t Had Any Coronavirus Cases)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through a reverse image search, however, Check Your Fact found the photo was taken in October, almost two months before the German restrictions on unvaccinated individuals were announced. The picture is featured in an article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelocal.de\/20211014\/explained-why-is-german-twitter-up-in-arms-over-a-torch-light-military-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Local<\/a>, an English-language German news outlet, which explains it was taken during an Oct.13 ceremony in Berlin that sought to honor German soldiers who risked their lives during the Afghanistan War. The ceremony was criticized by some Germans for its visual similarities to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facinghistory.org\/resource-library\/image\/torchlight-parade-celebrating-hitler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">torch-lit<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.criticalpast.com\/video\/65675065731_Nazi-torch-rally_Nazi-troops_Brandenburg-Gate_soldiers-march\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">marches<\/a> that occurred in Nazi Germany prior to World War II, the outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelocal.de\/20211014\/explained-why-is-german-twitter-up-in-arms-over-a-torch-light-military-parade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The photo matches other images and videos from the Oct. 13 ceremony. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/soldiers-take-part-in-a-grand-tattoo-to-honour-those-involved-in-the-countrys-20-year-mission-to-afghanistan-in-front-of-the-reichstag-building-in-berlin-germany-october-13-2021-reutershannibal-hanschke-image447921609.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this image<\/a> shared on the stock photo website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alamy.com\/soldiers-take-part-in-a-grand-tattoo-to-honour-those-involved-in-the-countrys-20-year-mission-to-afghanistan-in-front-of-the-reichstag-building-in-berlin-germany-october-13-2021-reutershannibal-hanschke-image447921609.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alamy<\/a> appears to show the same soldiers from a different angle.
