The proposal is set to be voted on December 21, a date chosen, write the parent leaders, because it is \u201cnot a historically high parent-participation date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One section of the newly minted \u201cCode of Conduct\u201d bars council members from engaging in \u201cfrequent verbal abuse and unnecessary aggressive speech.\u201d It also gives the chancellor the authority to remove a member if they the chancellor determines their conduct is \u201ccontrary to the best interest of the New York City school district.\u201d Removal from the CEC might come if member conduct \u201ccreates or would foreseeably create a risk of disruption within the district or school community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maron and Egorov say the new proposal also \u201cestablishes yet another administrative position to monitor parents: the equity-compliance officer.\u201d This officer would be \u201ccharged with deciding who to target for removal.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Noting the timing, the two parent leaders say the regulation comes immediately after an election in which, for the first time, parents were able to directly vote for CEC members. According to Maron and Egorov, some seats were \u201cflipped,\u201d electing members critical of DOE policies.<\/p>\n<p>As Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/26\/manhattan-school-racially-segregate-children-social-justice-talks\/\">reported<\/a>, a Manhattan school decided to racially segregate students to participate in \u201caffinity groups,\u201d a policy apparently being followed across the city and one which Maron and Egorov say parents have \u201csharply objected to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The parent leaders also noted other city school policies that they believe are the reason for flipping CEC member seats to DOE skeptics. \u201cOver the last three years, we parents have vocally opposed the DOE\u2019s misguided school-closure and&nbsp;masking policies,\u201d they wrote.&nbsp;\u201cParents have clashed with the DOE regarding plans to scrap the SHSAT entrance exam to specialized high schools and eliminate gifted and talented schools and programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalling parents \u2018domestic terrorists\u2019 did not work to silence parents at school-board meetings,\u201d Maron and Egorov conclude, \u201cand trying to do an end-run around democratically elected parent leaders should not be allowed either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Breccan F.
