What we\u2019ve got to do is just hang on and continue to double down on the public health measures,\u201d he added at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, one year later, Fauci continues to sound the alarm over new variants of the virus as the U.S. seeks to return to a state of pre-pandemic normalcy.<\/p>\n<p>While Fauci initially dismissed mandates, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/09\/11\/fauci-one-year-ago-you-cannot-force-someone-to-take-a-vaccine\/\">concluding<\/a> that you&nbsp;\u201ccannot force someone to take a vaccine,\u201d he is now in favor of such measures. Speaking in an interview at the&nbsp;2021 national convention for the Association of LGBTQ Journalists mere months ago, Fauci said more Americans need to be vaccinated and suggested that mandates may be the way to make it happen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe other way to do it is to have many, many more mandates,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/vaccines\/covid-19-vaccine\/news\/20210913\/fauci-many-more-vaccine-mandates-needed-to-end-pandemic\">said<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17907962\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"34\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17907962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GettyImages-1234867312.jpg\" alt=\"Protestors opposed to coronavirus vaccine mandates and vaccine passports by the government rally at City Hall in New York City on August 25, 2021. You\u2019d like to have them do it on a totally voluntary basis, but if that doesn\u2019t work, you\u2019ve got to go to the alternatives,\u201d he said, echoing the sentiments of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D), who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/06\/new-york-city-mandate-coronavirus-vaccine-all-private-sector-employees\/\">announced<\/a> his decision to force private sector employees to get the vaccination, as well as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/12\/06\/bill-de-blasios-ultimatum-parents-get-your-child-vaccinated-or-cannot-go-indoor-restaurants\/\">force<\/a> businesses to discriminate against unvaccinated children.<\/p>\n<p>This is far from the first time Fauci has drastically changed his stance on issues related to the virus. While he dismissed masks as a \u201cparanoid\u201d tool in 2019 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/06\/02\/report-anthony-fauci-said-released-emails-drug-store-masks-not-really-effective\/\">confessed<\/a> that drug store masks are \u201cnot really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through the material\u201d in early 2020, he is now an ardent supporter of masking.
