Well, do you remember that previous woke catastrophe, <em>In the Heights?<\/em> &nbsp;It opened to $11.5 million.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><em>West Side Story<\/em> is projected to bomb harder than <em>In the Heights<\/em>, lol.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, the <em>In the Heights\u2019<\/em> production budget was only $55 million.<\/p>\n<p><em>West Side Story<\/em> cost $100 million to produce and probably as much to promote.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Now we get to my favorite part, that part where all the Hollywood media suck-ups fire off their lame excuses to appease their Studio Masters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, moviegoers over the age of 35 are the most leery in terms of returning to theaters,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/west-side-box-office-worrisome-debut-1235061313\/\">says<\/a> the left-wing <em>THR<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what you all said about <em>No Time to Die,<\/em> which opened to a disappointing $55 million. It seems to me that if the older-skewing <em>No Time to Die<\/em> could open to $55 million, <em>West Side Story<\/em> could do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Deadline, of course, is always the biggest whore in this department. Here are <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/12\/west-side-story-opening-weekend-1234888675\/\">five excuses<\/a> jammed into three sentences:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"12\">\n<p>Aside from opening in a marketplace where adults are still cautious [1] because of Covid,&nbsp;<em>West Side Story<\/em>\u2018s biggest hurdle as of this minute are holiday season [2] distractions, i.e. shopping, parties. Typically the [3] only movies showing any signs of life before Christmas are event titles like&nbsp;<em>Jumanji: The Next Level&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse.&nbsp;<\/em>One [4] can\u2019t exactly expect big grosses for an adult-demo musical which is a remake of a Hollywood classic [5] before Christmas, even pre-pandemic.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>No shame. None.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Riddle me this, you brownnosing hacks\u2026 Weren\u2019t all these factors apparent BEFORE you predicted a box office haul of $<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2021\/12\/disney-hopes-for-long-holiday-dance-with-steven-spielbergs-west-side-story-global-start-could-reach-31m-box-office-preview-1234887032\/\">12-$17 million<\/a>? And let\u2019s not kid ourselves. That estimate was deliberately low in the hopes of fabricating EXCEEDS or MEETS EXPECTATIONS headlines for anything under $20 million, which is still a catastrophe for a $100 million studio movie.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and because CNN doesn\u2019t already have enough credibility problems, that fake news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/movies\/news\/west-side-story-could-have-a-big-opening-at-box-office-thanks-to-spielberg-and-oscar-buzz\/ar-AARH87z\">told its<\/a> gullible readers,\u201d \u2018West Side Story\u2019 could have a big opening at box office thanks to Spielberg and Oscar buzz.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Oh, okay, CNN. (Courtesy 20th Century Films)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Remaking a Best Picture winner that is still beloved, that no one asked to see remade, is already a terrible idea \u2014 a total vanity project on behalf of Spielberg. Everyone loves 1961\u2019s <em>West Side Story<\/em>. It still works and is still iconic.<\/p>\n<p>But then Spielberg went the woketard route, as though the original somehow required \u201ccorrecting,\u201d as though there is something wrong with those of us who love the 60-year-old classic. <em>Yes, we must see the <strong>correct <\/strong>version, the <strong>appropriate<\/strong> version; we must be re-educated.<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Good grief.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Watch below:&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"West Side Story (1961) - Official\u00ae Trailer [HD]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NF1L3NorO3E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Spielberg openly sought to appease the most out-of-touch and fascist members of our society \u2014 left-wing racial activists. In this case, he sought them out in the crybaby, Puerto Rican activist community. This is a terrible idea, most especially for an artist. Racial activists in no way reflect what everyday Americans think or feel or want, and this includes Puerto Rican Americans.<\/p>\n<p>Spielberg\u2019s racial patronizing was so pathetic, he decided to punish and exclude anyone who\u2019s not bilingual by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/12\/09\/nolte-west-side-story-lack-subtitles-exclusion-not-inclusion\/\">not including subtitles<\/a> in scenes where everyone speaks Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I subtitled the Spanish I\u2019d simply be doubling down on the English and giving English the power over the Spanish,\u201d the virtue-signaling Spielberg squeaked from his gerbil cage.<\/p>\n<p>What does that even mean?!?!<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll tell you what it means\u2026 It means his <em>West Side Story<\/em> remake is more homework than entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/latino\/spielbergs-west-side-story-brings-deeper-focus-puerto-rican-experience-rcna8029\">perfect example<\/a> of what I\u2019m talking about [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"23\">\n<p>In the new movie, Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner work <strong>to correct <\/strong>the original musical and movie\u2019s <strong>stereotypical depictions<\/strong>, <strong>adding more specificity and historical context around the Puerto Rican experience,<\/strong> and around the <strong>issues of racism and racial hostility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Such animosity first becomes evident when the <strong>Jets vandalize a mural of the Puerto Rican flag<\/strong> with a quotation from Pedro Albizu Campos, the leading figure of the Puerto Rican independence movement. The quote reads, \u201cla patria es valor y sacrificio,\u201d Spanish for \u201cthe homeland is value and sacrifice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you see that and you notice that the <strong>flag is the light blue flag, which is the original color of the Puerto Rican flag\u201d before the U.S. colonized Puerto Rico <\/strong>in 1898 after the Spanish-American War. \u201c<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh, yeah, this movie sounds like a load of laughs, a real good time. And what a brilliant marketing strategy, telling the fanbase there\u2019s something wrong with a movie they already love. Why would anyone subject themselves to this?<\/p>\n<p>Newsflash: Puerto Ricans do not come to America because they LOVE Puerto Rico. I\u2019m not saying they don\u2019t have an affinity for their homeland. Still, they came to America for a reason\u2014for a better quality of life, because things really are better here, and that is something the 1961 version understood and celebrated.<\/p>\n<p>But who did Spielberg seek out?
