Psaki stated that former President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/03\/28\/politics\/donald-trump-jussie-smollett-doj-fbi\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">had also condemned<\/a> the incident at the time, but conceded that everyone had a lesson to learn, before going on to condemn Smollett.&nbsp; <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/10\/empire-actor-jussie-smollett-hate-crime-hoax-twitter-reaction-democrats-celebrities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Here Are The High-Profile Democrats And Celebs Who Fell For Jussie Smollett\u2019s Hate Crime Hoax)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth the president and vice president tweeted at the time of the attack,\u201d a reporter stated. \u201cThe president tweeted \u2018What happened to Jussie Smollett must never be tolerated in this country. We\u2019re with you Jesse.\u2019 The vice president called it an \u2018attempted modern day lynching.\u2019 Since the guilty verdict, are there any lessons learned here on rushing to judgment when a crime is alleged?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are lessons learned perhaps for everybody who commented at the time, including former President Trump \u2026 where he said \u2018I can tell you that it\u2019s horrible. It doesn\u2019t get worse,\u2019 in response to [April Ryan\u2019s] question about Jussie Smollett at the time,\u201d Psaki said. \u201cI would say that we respect the jury\u2019s decision. Lying to the police, particularly about something as heinous as a hate crime is shameful. He claimed to police that two men had beaten him, yelled racial slurs, poured bleach on him and tied a noose around his neck and then left him in the street.
