(Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 11:25 AM PT \u2013 Friday, December 10, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>A group of Republican senators are standing up to Joe Biden\u2019s proposed COVID-19 vaccine mandate for truck drivers.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cramer.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sen-cramer-colleagues-urge-biden-to-reverse-vaccine-mandate-for-truckers-crossing-the-northern-border\">letter to Biden<\/a>, 12 GOP senators, led by Montana Sen. Steve Daines, warned the mandate would make the supply chain crisis worse at the U.S.-Canada border. The senators pointed out that truck drivers are essential workers and any mandate would hinder the transportation of goods between Canada and the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>They urged Biden to discuss his proposal with Canadian officials and to come up with a plan that doesn\u2019t include a vaccine mandate. The American Trucking Associations\u2019 president has also spoken out against the mandate, saying it would cause truckers to leave the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn our sample survey of our fleets, it came back as 37 percent of our drivers said not only no, but hell no,\u201d said Chris Spear, CEO of the American Trucking Associations. \u201cNow, let\u2019s just take a conservative number. Let\u2019s just say 3.7 percent, not 37 percent, were to actually leave rather than get the vaccine. That\u2019d be catastrophic. We\u2019re already short 80,000 and that\u2019s going to inflate it to a quarter-million. So, for us, we\u2019ve tried to be very clear with the administration that if you do this, I understand the logic behind it, but if you do this, these are the consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019m glad to see the Senate pass my effort with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorBraun?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SenatorBraun<\/a> to strike down <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeBiden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JoeBiden<\/a>\u2019s vaccine mandate on private businesses. <\/p>\n<p>I will not stop fighting until ALL of Biden\u2019s mandates are reversed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Steve Daines (@SteveDaines) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveDaines\/status\/1468753922437398529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a separate statement, Daines said Biden imposing a mandate for essential American workers trying to cross the northern border while not imposing any mandate for illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, is hypocritical.
