class=\"subheading\">A member of the populist Austrian Freedom Party (FP\u00d6) has expressed concern that amendments to a law on administrative enforcement could be used to imprison unvaccinated people for as long as a year.<\/p>\n<p>Susanne F\u00fcrst of the&nbsp;FP\u00d6 fears that an amendment to the&nbsp;Administrative Enforcement Act could be used to enforce the proposed mandatory coronavirus vaccination policy against the unvaccinated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parlament.gv.at\/PAKT\/VHG\/XXVII\/I\/I_01176\/fnameorig_1012518.html\">amendment<\/a> would raise fines from \u20ac726 (\u00a3617\/$818) to \u20ac2,000 (\u00a31,701\/$2,255) and would also increase prison time for refuseniks from just four weeks to up to a year in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Those jailed may also be ordered to pay for their own imprisonment under the new amendment, which states: \u201cIf detention is carried out by the courts, the associated costs shall be recovered by the courts from the obligated party in accordance with the provisions existing for the recovery of the costs of enforcing judicial penalties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the amendment makes no specific mention of the Wuhan virus or the mandatory vaccine policy, Ms&nbsp;F\u00fcrst <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ots.at\/presseaussendung\/OTS_20211202_OTS0202\/verfassungsausschuss-beschliesst-ersatz-fuer-verfassungswidrige-beugehaft-und-verlaengerung-der-covid-19-sonderregelungen\">expressed concern<\/a> that it would be used on those who do not take the vaccine and said such a policy should be ruled out.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote stated that there was a political consensus on the issue and that while the government desired to persuade people to take the vaccine, the possibility of punishment must exist to preserve the credibility of the legal system.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Ms&nbsp;F\u00fcrst\u2019s protest, the motion to amend the&nbsp;Administrative Enforcement Act was passed by all parties except the FP\u00d6, who voted against it.<\/p>\n<p>Since Austria <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/19\/austria-unvaccinated-could-face-prison-as-country-locks-down-and-announces-vaccine-mandate\/\">announced<\/a> it would be ordering citizens to take coronavirus vaccines last month, there have been varying reports on how much violators would be fined or how long they could be imprisoned, with media <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilgiornale.it\/news\/mondo\/austria-obbligo-vaccinale-e-sanzioni-fino-7200-euro-1992860.html\">reporting<\/a> penalties of up to \u20ac7,200&nbsp;(\u00a36,136\/$8,142)&nbsp;were possible.<\/p>\n<p>A poll released last week revealed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/12\/02\/authoritarian-austria-55-per-cent-back-forced-vaccinations\/\">55 per cent of
