His supporters gathered outside the High Court on Friday, waving banners demanding his release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-224 Component-p-0-2-215\">A lower court judge earlier this year refused the U.S. request to extradite Assange to face spying charges over WikiLeaks\u2019 publication of secret military documents a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-224 Component-p-0-2-215\">District Judge Vanessa Baraitser denied extradition on health grounds, saying Assange was likely to kill himself if held under harsh U.S. prison conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-224 Component-p-0-2-215\">If convicted in the U.S., Assange, 50, faces a possible penalty of up to 175 years in jail, his lawyers have said. However the U.S. government said the sentence was more likely to be between four and six years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.9820359281437\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@realdonaldtrump<\/a> weighs on in Juilan Assange&#8217;s arrest and the DOJ&#8217;s extradition request: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1pxavy1mu5\">pic.twitter.com\/1pxavy1mu5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1116447919161446401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 11, 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Australian faces an 18-count indictment from the U.S. government, accusing him of conspiring to hack into U.S. military databases to acquire sensitive secret information relating to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, which was then published on the Wikileaks website.<\/p>\n<p>He says the information exposed abuses by the U.S. military.<\/p>\n<p>Assange was jailed for 50 weeks in May 2019 for breaching his bail conditions after going into hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.<\/p>\n<p>He sought refuge in the embassy for seven years from 2012 until he was arrested in April 2019, as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2019\/04\/11\/wikileaks-publisher-julian-assange-arrested-by-british-authorities\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time he fled to the embassy, he had been facing extradition to Sweden on allegations of sexual assault which he denied.
