Although many conservative and centrist lawmakers \u2014 such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) \u2014 have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/manchin-doubles-down-on-paid-family-leave-stance\">stated<\/a> that they will not endorse a plan with paid leave, Schumer doubled down on his support for the policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most important planks in our proposal is paid leave,\u201d Schumer said during a media briefing. \u201cWe\u2019re here to say that we are fighting very hard to get national comprehensive paid leave in the Build Back Better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/12\/09\/sen-chuck-schumer-says-paid-leave-is-so-vital-to-build-back-better.html\">CNBC<\/a> reported that Schumer\u2019s proclamation followed a lobbying effort from his constituents:<\/p>\n<p>Advocates are campaigning tirelessly to try to ensure the issue does not wind up on the chopping block as lawmakers negotiate to get the package passed\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the proposal was dropped from the initial framework of the bill passed by the House in late October, families campaigned for the issue in Schumer\u2019s own Brooklyn, New York, neighborhood of Park Slope. <\/p>\n<p>In early December, more than 750 New York-area community organizations and leaders, including Schumer\u2019s own rabbi, sent him a letter advocating for the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of Congress, among the voices opposing the Build Back Better Act has been Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say can this bill, don\u2019t pass it. That\u2019s my recommendation,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elon-musk-trashes-bidens-build-back-better-plan-can-this-bill-dont-pass-it\">argued<\/a> Musk during The Wall Street Journal\u2019s CEO Council Summit. \u201cIf this bill happens or doesn\u2019t happen, we don\u2019t think about it at all really. Honestly it might be better if the bill doesn\u2019t pass.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nothing-is-more-permanent-than-a-temporary-government-program-elon-musk-continues-crusade-against-biden-agenda\">shared<\/a> an analysis from the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Wharton School \u2014 his alma mater \u2014 explaining that the national debt would increase by more than 24% if the bill\u2019s provisions are made permanent. \u201cThere is a lot of accounting trickery in this bill that isn\u2019t being disclosed to the public,\u201d he commented. \u201cNothing is more permanent than a \u2018temporary\u2019 government program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/elizabeth-warren-argues-for-new-corporate-tax-to-fund-bidens-build-back-better-agenda\">argued<\/a> that the Build Back Better agenda should include a 15% minimum tax for corporations earning over $1 billion in profits. Among the 70 eligible companies identified by a report from her office are Amazon, Apple, Bank of America, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, PayPal, and Salesforce.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another potential mechanism for raising additional government revenue for the Build Back Better agenda is an $80 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/americans-twice-as-likely-to-experience-irs-audits-thanks-to-biden-spending-plan\">windfall<\/a> for the IRS \u2014 which would hire 87,000 more IRS agents and enable more than 1.2 million new federal tax audits each year. <\/p>\n<p>A report from Republican members of the House Ways &amp; Means Committee emphasized that nearly half of these audits \u2014 over 583,000 \u2014 would apply to Americans making less than $75,000 per year.
