He observed how the near-monopoly held by the NIH over funding for health research corrupts scientific inquiry, given the absence of competitive forces.<\/p>\n<p><span>He said, \u201cIf you put in for a grant \u2014 [scientific study] costs money&nbsp; \u2014 only one in 10 is funded. Which one in 10 is going to get funded? There should be a competitive system.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>An application for \u201ca grant that runs against the grain\u201d is unlikely to be awarded funding, Arnn stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The NIH should fund studies investigating more than one side of a given question, he proposed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese scientific grant-giving agencies should be required to become competitive,\u201d he said. \u201cI<\/span><span>f they fund a thesis, they should extensively fund the counter thesis and then let the testing go on. It really doesn\u2019t matter what [the] thesis or counter thesis is, what matters is it\u2019s looked at from all sides.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Arnn recalled presidential medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci\u2019s previous role as the head of the NIAID, a subsidiary of the NIH, and his authority of grant-making decisions. He said the CDC advocated for greater governmental control over \u201chow people live in order to assure public health \u2014 how densely they live [and] where they live,\u201d just \u201cmonths before the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>He said, <\/span><span>\u201cThat\u2019s a comprehensive state-planning function, and so that means they get power from a centralized system, and they\u2019re partial to studies that reinforce their power.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Arnn noted that thirst for power is a part of the human condition. He concluded, \u201cThat\u2019s not even difficult to understand. Human beings are like that.
