Smollett repeatedly denied the claims. The brothers said Smollett orchestrated the hoax, telling them to put a noose around his neck and rough him up in view of a surveillance camera, and that he said he wanted video of the hoax made public via social media.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"6.227027027027\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83d\udea8 BREAKING \ud83d\udea8<\/p>\n<p>Jussie Smollett is found guilty on the first 5 charges.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DonaldJTrumpJr?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DonaldJTrumpJr<\/a> was correct since the beginning. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WqivP7YVBK\">pic.twitter.com\/WqivP7YVBK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MRCTV (@mrctv) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mrctv\/status\/1469085381027061767?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 9, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">Smollett called the brothers \u201cliars\u201d and said their account was \u201c100% false. He testified over two days about being the victim of what he said was a hate crime, telling the jury \u201dthere was no hoax.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">Abimbola Osundairo, who worked with Smollett on the Chicago set of \u201cEmpire,\u201d and his brother, Olabingo Osundairo, also testified that Smollett paid them $3,500 for faking the attack. Smollett said the money was for meal and workout plans that Abimbola Osundairo was providing so the actor could be more toned for upcoming performances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">The Jan. 29 assault was reported to police, prompting a massive investigation that a lead detective said included some two dozen officers and 3,000 staff hours.
