The charges were listed as class 4 felonies, \u201cwhich are among the least serious felonies in Illinois,\u201d the report said, adding that possible \u201cconvictions can still carry potential prison time of up to three years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Back in January 2019, Smollett claimed he was targeted and attacked by apparent supporters of President Donald Trump in an anti-gay, anti-black hate crime. His alleged attackers, whom he initially described as white males who yelled \u201cThis is MAGA country,\u201d were brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, Smollett maintained. Notably, the brothers are both black men who knew the \u201cEmpire\u201d star before the incident and have claimed Smollett orchestrated the \u201choax.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/here-are-all-top-democrats-tweets-about-jussie-amanda-prestigiacomo\">The Daily Wire<\/a> detailed Smollett\u2019s claim at the time:<\/p>\n<p><em>Smollett contends he was targeted by two Trump supporters, who verbally and physically accosted him as he was walking home from a Subway sandwich shop in downtown Chicago on January 29. The actor says the men called him a \u201cf*****\u201d and a \u201cn*****,\u201d tied a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and kicked him in the ribs.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Smollett unsuccessfully tried to get the charges against him dismissed in October, before the trial started. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-denies-jussie-smolletts-last-ditch-effort-to-have-charges-dismissed\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n<p><em>Smollett\u2019s attorney, Nenye Uche, said the charges should be dismissed because Smollett already performed community service and paid a $10,000 bond under a sweetheart deal with Cook County prosecutors, The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/jussie-smollett-criminal-trial-judge-denies-dismiss-case\">reported<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA deal is a deal.
