Marco Rubio pressed The New York Times to answer for their alleged decision to withhold documents that connected the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with genocide, after his initial letters were reportedly inadequately answered.<\/p>\n<p>The Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/b5d1481f-ced2-422e-a93e-c4d6a4ebade3\/F878AC49A73D540873D2504A5F904C61.12.09.21-rubio-follow-up-to-ny-times-re-ccp-documents.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">letter<\/a>, addressed to A.G. Sulzberger, chairman of the NYT Company and publisher of the NYT, called on the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/10\/china-cnn-uyghur-genocide-editors-note\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outlet<\/a> to answer why they allegedly failed to respond to Rubio\u2019s original letter as to why the NYT \u201cengaged in selective reporting in 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NYT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/11\/16\/world\/asia\/china-xinjiang-documents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published a piece<\/a> in 2019 about Beijing\u2019s role in building interment camps to detain <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/06\/rick-scott-letter-meeting-nba-commissioner-adam-silver-silence-china-ongoing-genocide-uyghur-muslims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uyghurs<\/a>. Rubio argued the report cited Chinese President Xi Jinping who said the camps were part of a counterterrorism law.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rubio.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm?p=Press-Releases&amp;id=24939FB8-E229-44C5-B865-AA08B12FE7EF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">original letter<\/a> sent by Rubio questioned why the outlet reportedly withheld <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/30\/leaked-documents-show-chinese-president-xi-ordered-uyghur-genocide-in-top-secret-speeches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">403 pages of leaked documents<\/a> regarding the Uyghur genocide. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/12\/08\/uyghur-forced-labor-prevention-act-passes-house-jim-mcgovern\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: House Passes Bill Banning Imports From Xinjiang, China, Over Slave Labor Concerns)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn response to my November 30 letter, Assistant Managing Editor for International Michael Slackman confirmed that the New York Times intentionally withheld nearly every document, noting that the paper \u2018created replicas of several pages of the documents for illustrative purposes and to highlight key passages.\u2019 Critically important information was contained within the hundreds of pages that were hidden \u2013 and continue to be hidden \u2013 from the American people and governments across the globe,\u201d Rubio said in Thursday\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7334927\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"38\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7334927\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 OCTOBER 07: Sen. (Photo by Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Rubio called the NYT\u2019s reported failed response a \u201cglaring omission that raises the prospect that the Times may have censored its reporters at the request of a genocidal regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Slackman responded to Rubio\u2019s original letter calling his characterization of the NYT\u2019s reporting \u201csimply wrong,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/rubio-demands-answers-new-york-times-uyghur-genocide-cover-up\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fox News<\/a>. Slackman reportedly said the outlet was concerned the CCP would uncover the whistleblower.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio told Fox News that the defense of fear of retribution is weak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike any other corporate media entity they probably fear being kicked out of China, they probably fear losing access to China, losing reporting capabilities. That comes into play for media outlets who decide not to pursue certain stories,\u201d Rubio said to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio also told the outlet he believes the NYT selectively withheld the documentation because it could have helped former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo put out there information that proves Xi Jinping is responsible for genocide would have helped the narrative being pursued by the Trump administration,\u201d Rubio told Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Under Trump, the U.S. became the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/01\/19\/mike-pompeo-united-states-declares-china-committing-genocide-uighur-muslims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first countr<\/a>y to formally declare the Chinese Communist Party is committing \u201cgenocide\u201d against Uyghur Muslims.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican Florida Sen.
